My Story of Medical neglect.

I don't know why this hasn't received more publicity, but this fifty-foot sculpture was unveiled recently in South Dakota.
It's called 'Dignity' and was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation.

It is my great desire to reform my subjects, and yet I am ashamed to confess that I am unable to reform myself.

SSG Blane Barnes my story of medical neglect

In 1975 I was stationed at 2/61 ADA, Camp Mosier, 2nd Infantry Division, South Korea. Participation was mandatory for everyone in the annual 2nd Infantry Division Combat Physical Exercise. At the last event we were required to run a course with three-man teams carrying wood full-size utility poles on one shoulder, handing them off to another team.
After this exercise we were released to go to breakfast. On our walk to the Mess Hall, I felt a big pop in my lower back, my vision went black and I fell face first on the pavement. The only medical personnel assigned to this small camp was a Specialist 5 medic. This person examined me and diagnosed my injury as a lower back strain. I was given pain pills and muscle relaxers. No other diagnostic procedures were performed, no x-rays were performed.
From this time forward each time I went on Sick-Call I was treated for what was in my record, pills and no x-rays, until I ETS-ed from the Army December 1980.
In June 1992 I went to the VA for help as my job told me that they no longer accommodate me because of the issues I had with my back. The VA continued to treat me the same as the Army had, pain pills and muscle relaxers. In 1994 after I started receiving Medicare disability, I went to a Specialist Dr. Neil Vaggeburg for a complete workup of my back. Dr. Veggeburg found that my first injury was a L5-S1 herniated disk with compression fractures. L4-L5 T7-T8 and C6 became herniated at later dates because of the original injury at L5-S1.
I now have Spinal Ataxia caused by three severe Stenosis that was never addressed, Stenosis is treatable if it’s done before it becomes sever it was not suggested before they became severe. Two in my lower back and one in my neck. The ones in my lower back have caused paralysis from my chest down to my feet. The one in my neck has caused numbness in my arms to date I still have some use of my hands.
Now days I enjoy being around my wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
