DIY Shower Steamers Recipe π
Nothing beats a hot shower at the end of a long (and cold) day. Use these steamers to relax or add energizing essential oils to give yourself a boost in your morning shower.
Just toss one of these babies on the floor of the shower and let the aroma and the steam do its work.
Ingredients:
Β½ cup Sodium Bicarbonate
ΒΌ cup Citric Acid
Witch Hazel
Droppers
Any kind of mold, or just shape with your hands.
Simply mix the sodium bicarbonate and citric acid together in a mixing bowl until there are no lumps. Wear gloves! Citric acid will dull your nail polish. Add your choice of essential oils. You can be more generous with the oils because they will be a soothing vapour and not sat in, so make to your preference.
Add witch hazel one or two spritz's at a time until the mixture sticks together. Careful not to add too much - or the mixture will fizz too early.
Get creative if you'd like! Add natural colourants, flower petals etc.
Press them into a mold or into the shape you'd like.
Let them dry overnight, and they are ready to use or to gift. β₯οΈ

Tension headaches ugh...
I experimented with a new diffuser blend today to see if it could help. Personally I found that this helped ease sinuses and relax enough to curb the worst part of the headache. Here was my recipe:
5 drops of cypress
4 drops of black spruce
5 drops of bergamot
3 drops of tangerine
1 drop of peppermint
Diffuse or dilute in lotion or oil and rub into shoulders. Want to try? Just ask.
Why putting essential oils on your feet is a good idea - and the best oils to use! π
Most of us now have diffusers in our homes and have found some more creative ways to reap the benefits of using essential oils. Such as bracelets/jewellery, car diffusers or simply putting them in your bath. So why put them on your feet?
Massaging essential oils into the bottoms of your feet is so effective because your soles are key absorption points. Some of my customers swear that they have the best sleep ever when they do this before bed!
Try these out:
1. Eucalyptus, Tea Tree & Peppermint with coconut oil
Apply 4-5 drops in the morning and before bed. Alleviates and prevents soreness and tired feet.
2. Peppermint + brown sugar and grapeseed or almond oil
Apply 8-10 drops for a fantastic foot scrub that will leave you feeling super refreshed. Perfect for after hikes!
3. Lavender + heavy cream
Fill up a basin with warm water and add 8 drops of lavender and 1 cup of heavy cream for a relaxing foot soak that will leave your utterly relaxed and pampered.
Enjoy these! Consider this your official prescription!
As an aromatherapist, I've had many conversations with my customers about coronavirus over the past month. Here are some thing you should know:
First, as we all know Covid19 is a new virus that we are all challenged in treating, including herbalists and aromatherapists. It is in the Cov family along with other viruses that cause upper respiratory infections such as: SARS (2002), Swine H1N1 (2009), MERS (2012), and Ebola (2013). What we can do at this time is look to using essential oils that have been effective against the noted viruses, at least in the lab.
Many essential oils are anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-viral. However just because an oil is anti-bacterial doesn't necessarily mean it is also anti-viral or effective against coronavirus.
Here are some of the essential oils that are anti-viral and at this point are the best guess for battling Covid19:
Most Potent General Antivirals: *Cinnamon bark (flu, embola, avian, respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV), *Cinnamon leaf (H1N1) *Clove (flu, H1N1, embola, avian, coxsackievirus, rotovirus), Eucalyptus (flu, H1N1, coxsakie), *Oregano (coxsakie, avian), Sage (flu, SARS, avian), *Savory (avian), Tea Tree (flu), *Thyme (flu, H1N1, avian)
Antivirals Runner ups: Bay (SARS, probably Embola), Bergamot (flu, H1N1), Garlic (viral bronchitis & pneumonia), Geranium (flu), Ginger (norovirus), Juniper (H1N1), Lemon Balm (flu, avian, herpes, HIV), Lemon Grass (H1N1), Rosemary (papillomavirus).
Other Antivirals: Basil (especially chemotype "cinnamonβ and Tulsi), Caraway, Coriander, Lavender, Lemon, Manuka, Marjoram (flu), Myrrh, Peppermint, Star Anise, Sweet Orange.
(Thank you to my herbalist network for this research)
Keep in mind that the like herbs are also effective, so don't be afraid to brew up a herbal tea. Go easy with these oils, a little goes a long way.
If you'd like a special blend or you have a specific question please feel free to message me.
Stay safe & healthy out there!
Need an energy boost?
One of my customers asked for a suggestion for a blend that would be "motivating" as the days in isolation can be challenging.
Try a grapefruit mint blend in the diffuser for a happy energy that improve everyone's mood. Also....don't be afraid to go ahead and add a few drops into your shampoo. So refreshing.

Thieves Essential Oil
With coronavirus globally freaking everyone out, and hand sanitizer running low, keep this DIY recipe and essential oil blend in mind. A little history:
During the 15th century bubonic plague in Europe and Asia (1413), four European thieves made it a habit to rob the deceased of anything of value. These bodies were highly contagious with the plague, which begins with severe flu symptoms and then continues with the bacteria infecting the blood system, usually ending in death (it is estimated 150 million people passed during this four year pandemic).
However, these nasty villains never contracted the plague. It was reported that they wore hats and masks that smelled of vinegar and garlic and herbs and spices, namely cloves, lemons, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary.
I mix this blend with water and alcohol and use it in a spray bottle for hands and surface cleaning. Message me for yours while supplies last. I make it POTENT π
The first month of a new year is ALWAYS busy. Everyone is eager to get the show on the road! Can be stressful! I'm relying heavily on my good friend Black Spruceπ². I've been making various blends - with eucalyptus for colds, with cedarwood and lemongrass for stress relief, and with lavender for a relaxing & oxygenating night's sleep. If you have a recipe or an oil you rely on right now drop it below and share with the group! π
Ladies if you don't yet have this in your skin care regime you are missing out!!
I've been adding it to night time cream and to baths...and the impact is incredible. From correcting tone to the minimizing of fine lines.
