What an incredible opportunity to attend the Earthshot Prize final in Singapore.

Being a finalist last year has played an invaluable role in scaling our solution to decarbonise the construction sector.

Good luck tonight to all the finalists!

⬇️ We went to and…

🔸 Engaged with key stakeholders and industry leaders on the upcoming decarbonisation challenges the sector will face.

🔸 Discussed our carbon negative aggregate OSTO® and how it can help the sector reach net zero.

📣 It was great to see net zero being given such a prominent platform at the UK’s largest built environment event.

🎯 As net zero goals in the UK and throughout Europe get closer to their deadlines, decarbonisation across the economy is becoming more urgent.

🧱 OSTO® is a carbon-negative lightweight aggregate that can be incorporated into a variety of concrete applications to lower its carbon emissions.

🏗️ OSTO® is a direct replacement for traditional lightweight aggregates and can be seamlessly incorporated into the production process of concrete applications.

We are beyond proud to announce that Scott Bush and are two of this year’s innovators recognised by list.

They founded Low Carbon Materials (LCM) alongside Phil Buckley to make a tangible difference to help save the planet.

Starting out as scientists at Durham University, they set out to tackle the biggest challenges to reducing climate change.

As a group of PhD students studying materials chemistry they settled on the world’s most used man-made material, concrete, which causes up to 8% of global carbon emissions.

The journey from academic scientists to finalists has been challenging but rewarding.

This year our award-winning carbon-negative concrete aggregate, OSTO®, will be launched onto the UK market in the next stage of our development.

OSTO has been designed to help the built environment lower the carbon footprint of key construction products and projects.

We’d also love to recognise our third Co-Founder Phil Buckley who at the ripe age of 30 (and a few months!) deserves all the recognition for his equal contribution with LCM.

Thank you to for highlighting our work - it means a huge amount.

We pride ourselves on our ability to innovate with purpose, our open-mindedness to new ideas and ways of thinking, our collaborative nature, and our ongoing positive impact on the environment. The contribution of the women in our team is invaluable to this vision.
We’re at Futurebuild during international women in construction week and today, on International Women’s Day.
Only 11% of people working in UK construction are women. But throughout the conference it’s been brilliant to see so many at the forefront of net zero innovation in the sector.

🧱Being a finalist for The Earthshot Prize is an independent verification from the highest authority that our product has the potential to help fix our planet...

The Earthshot Prize held its inaugural Retreat at Cumberland Lodge, where its 15 international finalists met for the first time.

The 5-day Retreat is part of the Earthshot Prizes' nine-month Fellowship Programme - a unique accelerator created by global design company IDEO.

The week was designed to help accelerate our solutions by unlocking new routes to market, accessing finance and building industry partnerships.

It was a huge privilege to have been surrounded by some of the world's most exciting climate saving solutions.

The week honed our approach going forward - tackling climate change one block at a time.

By creating products such as OSTO®, we are supporting the momentum of the construction industry towards a net-zero, decarbonised future.

Here's to the next nine months under the Fellowship Programme, shaping us as the construction sector partner of choice for low carbon materials.

The Times has kicked off our 2023 by highlighting Low Carbon Materials as one of three construction sector rising stars ⬇️

Concrete is the second most used material in the world after water.

It has allowed us to build at a speed and efficiency like never before.

Unfortunately, it also has a significant impact on the environment, generating 8% of global carbon(eq) emissions.

These emissions are part of the ‘embodied carbon’ footprint of a building- the GHG emissions caused by the materials and construction process.

Purpose-led product innovation is crucial to reducing this aspect of the construction sector’s environmental impact.

In 2023 we’ll be working with ambitious industry partners who are open to science-led innovation to swap to lower carbon materials for construction. Read the article ➡️ https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/rising-stars-three-fast-growing-construction-businesses-852q6v36t
