For the past 2 years I have been proud to represent South Down at Assembly level, working hard for everyone and on 4th July I hope to give the people of South Down a strong opportunity to return a new MP for the area.

I have been selected by the Party, unanimously backed by the South Down Association and subject to executive ratification I look forward to fighting the forthcoming general election campaign in South Down.

On Friday 31st May I will be hosting a Coffee Morning in my Constituency Office in support of Air Ambulance Northern Ireland.

This is an amazing charity which provides critical life saving services, especially important in rural areas like South Down which are hard to reach quickly in an emergency.

It is almost 𝐒𝐈𝐗 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐒 since the landslide after the extreme weather caused the A2 Shore Road Rostrevor to be reduced to one lane. I have called on the Infrastructure Minister to provide an update on this as it is shocking.

There has been minimal updates and no visible progress to the hundreds of road users travelling on this main through road daily. My Office receives complaints about this on a daily basis. Local people are experiencing extreme disruption, often missing appointments when the single lane traffic at the lights is tailed-back and slowing emergency services reaching life-saving calls.

People in South Down once again are left behind, feeing forgotten with significant issues impacting their daily lives. We deserve an answer, this needs resolved and a timeline needs to be made clear.

As rates bills are being issued for this year, not everyone is facing the same pressure. We don't believe that hedge funds building student accommodation should benefit from exemptions whilist hard-working families must pay.

The Ulster Defence Regiment Benevolent Fund exists to provide assistance to former members of The Ulster Defence Regiment and the extended Ulster Defence Regiment Family who are in need because of sickness, disability, accident, infirmity, poverty or other adversity.

Devastating news this morning on the passing of Maynard Hanna.

A dedicated Unionist all of his days, including his time in the RUC, UDR, an advocate for the Ulster Scots movement and his time spent promoting Northern Ireland around the world.

A family man who will be dearly missed. Please keep Anne, Colin, Philip, Karl, Shakira and Maldwyn in your prayers at this devastating time as well as the wider family circle.

Personally I am heartbroken. Maynard was a mighty character. A central person in my decision to step forward in politics and a constant loyal supporter, advisor, confidant and dear friend.

We all have many stories to share and remember this larger than life Evertonian. He will be very much missed but his legacy long will live on. Some of my memories are shared in these pictures 💙

Final preparations underway for what has shaped up to a fantastic Careers Fair

With over 30 stalls there will surely be something for everyone so please encourage pupils along.

This is a fantastic opportunity to explore many different career paths and have a chat with experts in their field. It may well help pupils settle on a certain career and set a target to work towards.

The Federation of Small Businesses will also be in attendance if anyone who runs their own small business wants to call in and have a chat with the reps

🛑MEETING WITH DFI - Road Safety 🛑

This morning myself and our Mourne councillors, Henry Reilly and Glyn Hanna, meet with Val Russell from the Department of Infrastructure.

Pleased to gain commitment to improvements and signage at a number of key areas across the Mourne, and wider South Down area.

We are disappointed to still not secure improvements at the 'S of Spelga' at this time. We have been raising this often will continue to press for additional signage and safety improvements.

I am delighted to have been appointed by the Education Minister Paul Givan MLA as his Assembly Private Secretary.

The Education portfolio is huge and we have got straight to work on a wide range of issues.
From my work as DUP spokesperson on early education and childcare I will be building on this and working closely with the Minister to deliver on childcare for working families across Northern Ireland. Every child deserves the best start in life.

I look forward to making the most of this opportunity to help deliver on education. As a mother of three I have a personal close experience. I welcome comments, feedback and engagement on education issues.

A welcome announcement this morning from the Infrastructure Minister that an additional £8.1m will go into road resurfacing. I have immediately submitted this query to call for South Down to receive its much need fair share:

“Can the Minister please advise on the details of the areas will receive the benefit of this funding and resurfacing scheme urgently?

I am concerned as always that the South Down area is not left behind yet again where our roads are some of the worst in Northern Ireland following repeated patching and need resurfaced.”
