The Federal Reserve Building in lower Manhattan. The building contains a vault with the largest depository of gold in the world, much of it on behalf of numerous government institutions from around the globe. Work on the building was completed in 1924.
Luchow's on East 14th Street. Originally opened in 1882, it survived in this located for a century - surely a record for a New York restaurant? - before its closing in 1982. It was a popular destination for those in the world of entertainment given its proximity to Academy of Music and Steinway Hall.
Hester Street on Manhattan's Lower East Side was a popular destination for Jewish people emigrating from Eastern Europe. Like much of the LES, Hester Street has evolved over the decades, but a vibrant marketplace can still be found to this day at the Hester Street Fair.

The large building in the foreground is the Manhattan Municipal building, completed in 1914 and built to accommodate a growing city government after consolidation of the 5 boroughs in 1898. Behind that is the famous Woolworth building, which was the tallest in the world from 1913-1930.
