How to avoid Hydrogen embrittlement?

1.氫脆 (Hydrogen embrittlement)

氫脆現象是指金屬因滲氫嚴重而造成材料變脆，塑性降低，造成金屬容易斷裂的現象。例如:汽車彈簧、墊圈、螺釘、片簧等鍍鋅件，或是鋼絲、銅絲由於經多次電鍍和酸洗退鍍，都可能因滲氫嚴重而發生斷裂。本文主要介紹去氫處理的方法。

Hydrogen embrittlement refers to the phenomenon that the metal becomes brittle due to the severe hydrogen permeation, the plasticity is reduced, and the metal is easily broken. For example galvanized parts such as automobile springs, washers, screws, leaf springs, or steel wires and copper wires may be broken due to severe hydrogen permeation due to repeated plating and pickling and stripping. This article mainly introduces the dehydrogenation method.

2. 電鍍後除氫處理(Dehydrogenation after plating)

電鍍過程中滲氫多的金屬零件應儘快去氫，因為氫的數量會隨時間的延長而增加。新的國際標準草案規定「最好在鍍後1h內，但不遲於3h,進行去氫處理」。電鍍後去氫處理多採用加熱烘烤，常用的烘烤溫度為150～300℃，保溫2～24h。具體的處理溫度和時間應根據金屬零件大小、強度、鍍層性質而定。鍍鋅金屬零件的除氫處理溫度為110～220℃，溫度控制的高低應根椐基體材料而定。為了防止「鎘脆」，鍍鎘金屬零件的除氫處理溫度不能太高，通常為180～200℃。

During the electroplating process, metal parts with high hydrogen permeability should be dehydrogenated as soon as possible because the amount of hydrogen will increase with time. The new draft international standard stipulates that "it is best to perform dehydrogenation treatment within 1h but not later than 3h after plating". Most of the dehydrogenation treatment after electroplating uses heating and baking. The commonly used baking temperature is 150 ~ 300 ℃, and the heat preservation is 2 ~ 24h. The specific processing temperature and time should be determined according to the size, strength and coating properties of the metal parts. The temperature of the dehydrogenation treatment of galvanized metal parts is 110 ～ 220 ℃. The temperature control should be based on the base material. In order to prevent "cadmium embrittlement", the temperature of hydrogen removal treatment of cadmium-plated metal parts should not be too high, usually 180 ~ 200 ℃.
