Fat is not "bad". We need fat as it is a source of essential fatty acids, which the body cannot make itself. Fat helps the body absorb vitamin A, vitamin D and vitamin E. These vitamins are fat-soluble, which means they can only be absorbed with the help of fats.
Healthy fats include avocado, nuts, seeds and fish.

Ageing is an inevitable and natural part of life. But, why do we age? This is a topic up for debate among researchers, but one interesting theory lies in our gut.
It turns out that those who live to a healthy old age have distinctive gut microbiota. Gut microbiota are the microorganisms including bacteria, archaea and microscopic eukaryotes that live in the digestive tracts of humans and are essential for many aspects of our health. We all have a unique gut microbiome that begins to form even before we are born and it's so important to our health that many refer to it as our second brain! Your gut is quite literally linked to your brain activity and the two communicate via a gut-brain axis. A change or imbalance in gut bacteria can massively effect your health and immunity.
A study conducted on 9000 people, by a team led by Nathan Price at the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle in February of this year, found that people’s gut microbiota tend to become increasingly diverse and unique with age. This is a trend that continued in healthy people over 80, but interestingly not in less healthy people.
Ref: https://lnkd.in/gSQPK69
Analysis revealed that a gut microbiome linked with healthy ageing contains fewer bacteria in the genus Bacteroides, a member of the Bacteroidetes, and more Akkermansia and Christensenella, bacteria associated with lower inflammation, better sugar and fat metabolism and a lean body type.
So, could this mean that by manipulating our own gut microbiome, we can live a healthier life? How do you even change the diversity of the bacteria in your gut?
We can do this largely by dietary changes! Thankfully, the Health Hub covers exactly how you can do this ;-) Follow the link below to learn more about your gut microbiome!

According to NHS guidelines, this is how often the average adult is recommend to exercise.
In addition to this, we recommend just trying to find more active ways of living your life to bring more movement into your day, like talking a walk on your lunch break or in the afternoon when you finish work. Any movement is good movement and progress in the right direction.
You also do not have to join a gym to get fit and exercise. You can access hundreds of free workouts and plans online, or just adding in more things like walking, running and cycling can help you add more movement into your life.
Whilst most weight gain is due to consumption of more calories than a person burns, there are many medical conditions that do contribute to weight gain or make it harder to lose weight.
