Did you know that most injuries on slides are leg fractures?! I share this post multiple times a year because of how prevalent these injuries are...
A child sitting on an adult’s lap going down the slide can result in serious injury. The AAP found that over 350,000 children under the age of 6 were injured on slides between 2002-2015. Most of the injuries were leg fractures (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2018)
The child’s leg can get caught between the adult’s leg and the slide, causing serious injury to the child. I know😢
To avoid this, try to encourage your little one to go down the slide independently! If your child absolutely has to sit in your lap, secure their legs together with your hands and ensure their legs are on the center of your body before you go down the slide. Please share this to educate others!
Happy Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday!
I really do love OT a latte ❤️☕️ and all of you! Thanks for being here 🥰
Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR) is often called the fencing reflex.
When an infant turns their head to the right or left side (for this example we will say they turn their head to the right) the right arm and right leg extend (straighten) and the left arm and leg flexes (bends)..This reflex is typically present until
6-7 months. When an infant’s range of motion (the ability to turn their head side to side) is limited due to torticollis, they are not able to move through this reflex pattern.
ATNR is so important for multisensory processing; especially visual and auditory processing!
If this reflex remains past 7 months, we usually see that kiddos have difficulty separating their head movements from the rest of their body; whatever direction their head turns, the rest of their body will respond. This can create seemingly simple activities to become very difficult, especially school based tasks like reading & writing.

There can be some anxiety around the unknown; maybe a child is transitioning to a different classroom, they might have a new teacher, or maybe going to daycare or school is a new experience for your little one.
Visual schedules help children understand what is coming next during their day and can promote self regulation.
I found this visual schedule on Pinterest from .
There are many different options on Pinterest and Etsy for visual schedules!
Let me know if you've ever used a visual schedule with a child!
Thanks for having me,

The spinal galant reflex is elicited by light touch to the back, especially the lower back.
This reflex has an impact on bowel and bladder control. If a child has a retained spinal galant reflex and they change positions while a stimulus like their pajamas or sheets lightly touch their lower back, it could cause them to urinate.
This is not the only reason that a child could be experiencing bedwetting- but I always evaluate this reflex if bedwetting is a concern!
