Rooting for Change: Mabila Central Elementary School's Green Gift with DepEd's 236,000 Trees Initiative

Mabila, Sarangani, Davao Occidental – In the spirit of fostering environmental consciousness and sustainability, Mabila Central Elementary School embraced the festive season with a remarkable initiative as they joined the Department of Education's (DepEd) nationwide campaign, "236,000 Trees - A Christmas Gift for the Children."

Today, on December 6, 2023, the school hosted an inspiring tree-planting event at their premises, where pupils and dedicated teachers enthusiastically participated in planting coconut tree seedlings, contributing to the collective effort of greening the nation and creating a legacy of environmental stewardship.

The event commenced with an opening ceremony filled with enthusiasm and anticipation. Students and teachers, each armed with a sense of purpose, gathered to commemorate this significant event. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as they prepared to make a tangible contribution to nature.

With shovels in hand and hearts brimming with passion, the pupils and teachers ventured into the designated area within the school grounds. Guided by their respective teachers, they carefully planted coconut tree seedlings, each sapling symbolizing hope, growth, and the promise of a greener tomorrow.

The "236,000 Trees - A Christmas Gift for the Children" program, initiated by DepEd, aims to plant 236,000 trees nationwide, fostering a sense of environmental consciousness and encouraging communities to take an active role in conservation efforts.

As the sun reached its zenith, the planting activities concluded, leaving behind rows of newly planted coconut tree seedlings as a testament to the collective dedication of the school community towards a sustainable future.

In the spirit of the holiday season, this event not only gifted the earth with new life but also sowed the seeds of environmental responsibility and unity within the hearts of the young participants, promising a brighter, greener future for generations to come.

This noble act serves as a reminder that small actions, when taken collectively, can yield remarkable results, shaping a better world for the children of today and tomorrow.

Leadership and Partnership

Provision of potable water at school is very important not only for drinking but also for other necessities like watering the plants, cleaning the classrooms, offices, and bathrooms. But having a school owned water sources became more urgent when COVID-19 hits the country in December 2019 in which the Mabila also is one of the affected barangays in the municipality of Sarangani.

After the first attempt in 2019 failed to have its own water source that caused almost a hundred thousand pesos damage, the Mabila Central Elementary School (MCES) and its partners continue its mission and going forward to provide its own water source and finally it has been realized when the MCES led by Ruby V. Balanay, the very supportive School Principal, teaching and non-teaching forces, conduct the "Pawiin Mo Uhaw Ko" water source service opening ceremony blessed by Serafin K. Balcita (Pangulo sa Liturhiya).

Truly with great leadership, strong partnership, collaboration, transparency and trust, together we can achieve goals. The MCES really drawing out its best to success.
