When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child, she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her.

When they came on the eighth day to circumcize the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, “No. He will be called John.” But they answered her, “There is no one among your relatives who has this name.” So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,” and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God.

Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, “What, then, will this child be?” For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, the challenge today in our Gospel is that for every good news and blessing we received from God; do we share it with others especially to the less fortunate? Whenever God gives us graces and blessing there is indeed a reason behind it and that is to share it. “Share your blessings” another quotation that should motivate us not only this coming Christmas season as well as for the rest of our lives.

As Mary shared to the world her Son, the greatest blessing in the world; may we be inspired by her example to share too what we have and what we can for others. By doing this so, we can feel and experience indeed the spirit of Christmas and that is the spirit of generosity and the spirit of charity to all our brothers and sisters.

Gospel – Matthew 1:18-25
Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.

Joseph decided to quietly his relationship with Mary. In reality, Joseph could have publicly humiliated Mary for what has happened the will lead to Mary being stoned to death. However, as a righteous man, he just wanted to leave Mary in a quiet way. During that time, I am sure Joseph felt brokenhearted.

Thus, God intervened. The angel appeared to Joseph in his dreams, and explained everything to him. After that, Joseph was still free to choose. And thanks be to God, HE CHANGED HIS MIND. He then committed himself to protect and take care of Mary, and the enfant Jesus.

Therfore,this beautiful Gospel story should remind us that at first, God's plan may be not quite easy to understand and accept. that is why sometimes, at first, we turn down and go on our own way. However, it will not make us less of a human being if we change our mind a long the way as God continues to make us realize how beautiful His plan is for us.

May we ask the prayers of our dear Saint Joseph in our struggling moments of courageously responding to the will of God. Amen
