Switch.riiport
Hi! This is switch.riiport's official page. Collecting and documenting mechanical keyboard switches all the time, three times a week ๐
Good afternoon! Today I have an announcement that I have started to upload my switch documents onto 's website ๐โ
I will still be uploading to Instagram, of course! For a while now, and I believe even since the beginning of my switch documenting adventure, people have asked for secondary platforms for my posts. The latest request for just that caught the eye of the man behind Switch Oddities on our shared Discord server, Switch/Up (invite link in my linktree ๐), and he offered to host my documents on his website. I gladly took on that offer and have been slowly populating my section of the website.
btw, I have not completely transferred all of my documents yet! Not because I gave up halfway (more like a tenth of the way as of writing ๐
), but I figured that I might as well publicize this so that people can have that secondary resource anyway. In time I plan to have a release schedule where I can have both the Instagram post and website post ready back to back. For now though it is all about catching up to current me's document count.
Plus โผ๏ธ New stickers on Switch Oddities, created by your's truly, as well as featuring your's truly. Have you ever wanted a sticker of a screaming head in a switch on your water bottle? Well say no more, as you can have TWO kinds of stickers of screaming switch heads on your bottle!!! Or if you don't want something permanent, Switch Oddities also offers a magnet of their "Oddities" graphic. Use the link in my story to head straight to Switch Oddities, and if you want to check out my side of the site then you can follow the "Blog" option in the navigation bar at the top of the page, then hover down to "switch.riiport". There is also a direct link to it from my linktree titled "๐Switch Documents๐".
Good morning! Todayโs switch is the Gateron Oil King:
- Switch Type: Linear
- Brand & Manufacturer: .official
- Actuation Force: 55 ยฑ 5g
- Bottom Out Force: 65 ยฑ 5g
- Top Housing: Nylon PA66; Opaque Black
- Bottom Housing: "Ink Housing Material" (Ink Series); Opaque Black
- Stem: POM; Opaque Black; **12.51mm
- Spring: 20mm
- Total Travel: 4.0mm
- Factory l**ed
**Measurement as collected by myself using a caliper. These are not from any official sources.
Personal notes: (Opinion time!)
- I wonder if there is a suitable kind of l**e that is dark like oil ๐ค That would fit the switch's all black theme! I wish the metal leaf was black too.
- The stem wobbles a bit, which may explain how the stem travel can feel inconsistent. Sometimes it can feel like a little scrape, like little bumps, or even something little more solid like trying to pass a turnstile. However, real world usage (quick taps) tend to have a smoother experience. I still get some texture sensation here and there, but less frequently for sure.
- One other note about the stem travel is that at times it can feel "slick". It's not a smooth sensation as much as a...slippering one? ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
- Bottoming out seems to take about a half step more than a moderate amount of force to reach. Then when I'm at the "floor", it feels like pushing into a stiff plastic lid. A little give, but mostly firm.
- Just below average pitch, and a very low volume. Attaching a keycap however increases its pitch to in between mid and high levels, and then a step above medium volume.
- I think I hear scratchy or shakey sounds hanging out in the background.
Feel free to suggest the next switch you want to see documented. ๐
Thanks for reading, have a nice day!
