‼️📢ANNOUNCING!📢‼️Reading with Pals is open for scheduling! Please read through this post prior to booking.🐾📚
Q: What is Reading with Pals?
A: We are a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing literacy skills in children from kindergarten to third grade through a distinctive methodology. Extensive research and experimentation have demonstrated that Pet Therapy Dogs possess a natural ability to elevate serotonin levels and boost confidence during the initial phases of reading development. Moreover, their presence fosters a positive association with books, thereby encouraging a favorable attitude towards reading in general.
Q: How does Reading with Pals work?
A: You and your child will select a certified therapy dog and its handler at the program's onset. Weekly meetings with the chosen team will span six weeks, with sessions typically lasting 30 to 45 minutes. Initially, your child will undergo a brief reading assessment to establish a baseline score, followed by a subsequent assessment to document any demonstrable progress.
Q: Where do we meet the certified team we picked?
A: Our base of operations is situated at The Twisted Bookmark in Deridder, specifically at 1118 N Pine St. GB. Upon arrival, you will find their premises situated in the rear right section of the square shopping center. Additionally, you will have direct communication with your therapy dog team, and you are encouraged to explore alternative locations such as the park, ensuring that they are dog-friendly.
Q: What training have your volunteers been through?
A: Both our human volunteers and therapy dogs have undergone rigorous training. Our therapy dogs have completed obedience and therapy dog training, receiving certification from Therapy Dogs United. This certification includes insurance coverage for our clients during their visits. Moreover, the handlers have dedicated numerous hours to training, ensuring they possess the expertise and proficiency to meet Louisiana's Literacy Standards.
Q: How do I schedule?
A: Scheduling will be conducted at bestpalsmobilek9training.com/reading-with-pals. When scheduling your initial session, kindly book all six appointments consecutively for the same dog. Please note that depending on your chosen dog, the availability for your sessions may vary each week, although it could also remain consistent. Ensure that you only reserve slots on days and times when you are available. This approach will help prevent rescheduling conflicts and reduce the wait list for other participants.
