Murinui Farm
Photos and up-dates of life on our farm
Introducing Lazarus. We found him this morning as a head hanging out of Mum. She had given up trying to birth him and was happily munching. We moved Mum where we could help. He was just an immovable head with tongue lolling.
We were not trying to birth a lamb since we thought he was dead, but save a ewe. Finally pulled him free and unceremoniously plopped him to one side from where he started coughing. 12 hours later and he's still with us. Eating happily ๐
Little Minty strong enough now to start exploring the big wide world
Survived the night and trying hard to stand. A minute or so and a few tentative steps before another good rest
When you're unwanted by one Mum, there's always another who will love and look after you.
Brought him inside for the night. Has been trying to get up all day but hasn't quite made it. Fingers crossed he makes it through the night!
Poor Plover, laying its eggs in the middle of the paddock. The cows have just spent 2 days in this paddock, now the sheep. Amazed they're still intact but no sign of Mum and Dad.
Perfect day for mucking around with the sheep
Escapees ๐
First lambs of the season
Today was moving time for the girls. They've been brought up to our home block (Wits End). A nice, easy, stress free move.
Last weekend Barry and Gerald moved into their new space. Pretty happy with their mud pool๐
Happy Barry
Spot the 5th piglet ๐
A couple of unexpected surprises
Went on a drive yesterday to collect Gerald, our very first Berkshire pig. He was a bit shy at first, but settling in OK.
Watching the bales being made from the home block
That time of year again. Hay cut and ready to bale.
Very happy piglets enjoying the rose clippings ๐ท ๐น
Update on the new calf, very happy and settled with Mum ๐
Had new ladies arrive on the farm a few days ago, shortly followed by a surprise ๐ฎ. Young mum struggled for a while, calf needed a bit of help but result in the end. Mum and calf seem to be bonding now. So, fingers crossed. Thanks Andy and Anne for your help. As always, very much appreciated ๐
Spent most of the morning helping a cow out of the stream. Found its way in but couldn't get out. In some places the water was a wee bit deeper than my gummies๐Result though ๐
Our very first male piglet arrived on the farm today. Barry settled in nicely with the girls
New ladies arrived today ๐
Cutest thing listening to piggies snore. Humans, not so much ๐
Always hungry
Today's "job", collected Dolly and Molly, our 2 new Kune Kune pigs. Too cute
Yesterday's job, top dressing with seed and fertiliser. No rye grass, only clovers, plantain, chicory and cocksfoot. Fert, product by AgriSea made from seaweed. Only time will tell if our regenerative approach to pasture renewal will do the trick. Small steps...
How do you spend your wedding anniversary? Feeding out, fixing water troughs and welcoming new ladies ๐
I had an extra helper this week. The lovely Eevee lending a hand ๐
Said goodbye to some of our girls a few weeks ago to make room for the new arrivals. First mob came today ๐
