Happy International Youth Day! 🌏 🫶

This year’s theme: From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.

On International Youth Day 2024, we spotlight the pivotal role of young innovators in leveraging digital technologies to accelerate sustainable development.

Digitalization is reshaping our world, creating unparalleled opportunities to advance sustainable development. Technologies like mobile devices, digital services, and artificial intelligence play a crucial role in progressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The data from digital interactions facilitates evidence-based decision-making. Digital technologies and data impact economic, social, and environmental dimensions, contributing to 70% of the 169 SDG targets and potentially lowering the cost of achieving these goals by up to USD 55 trillion.

Youth are at the forefront of digital adoption and innovation, with 75% of individuals aged 15 to 24 using the internet in 2022, surpassing other age groups. However, challenges remain, especially in low-income regions and for young women, who often face barriers to internet access and digital skills compared to their male peers.

Enhancing digital inclusion is urgent, yet young people, recognized as "digital natives," are leveraging technology to drive change and develop solutions. As the 2030 SDG deadline approaches, the contribution of youth in digital innovation is critical for tackling global challenges.

Honoring the digital achievements of young people can spark further innovation and collaboration towards sustainable development.

Last month, our Youth Peace Ambassadors organized a Model Peace Negotiation with the goal of conflict resolution in the theme of "Peace Negotiation to End the Ukraine-Russia War."

The primary objectives of this initiative were to enhance participants' understanding of the complex dynamics surrounding the Ukraine-Russia war and to promote essential skills in negotiation, teamwork, and public speaking. The interactive role-play included two main parties (Ukraine and Russia), two supporting allies (USA and China), four international organizations (UNSC, NATO, ASEAN, AU), and a non-governmental organization (IPB).

The mediator of the session was Professor Anselmo Lee and the Youth Peace Ambassadors from the years 2021, 2022, and 2023 took on other roles, contributing to the success of this pivotal event. 🕊️🤝

🏆🌍✨ Honoring Excellence in Peace-Building! 🕊️🤝

It's a proud moment for us as we celebrate the remarkable achievements of the 2023 Youth Peace Challenge winners at the YPC 2023 Awarding Ceremony. 🏅

On the 21st of September, we came together to recognize the incredible talents that emerged during this year's competition. The YPC 2023 was a journey that brought together thousands of passionate and visionary young minds from around the globe, all united by the theme "Actions for Peace, Our Ambitions for Global Goals."

This journey consisted of two remarkable rounds - the first where participants submitted their insightful essays, and the second involving engaging group discussions among the chosen essay contributors. The wealth of ideas and solutions presented was truly awe-inspiring.

Our hope is that this experience will not only broaden the horizons of all participants but also inspire them to carry the torch of peace-building in their daily lives, communities, and even beyond national boundaries.

We couldn't have achieved this without the invaluable guidance of our advisor, Prof. Anselmo Lee, and the tireless dedication of our panel of judges.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the YPC Secretariat and our partner organizations for their unwavering support, which played a crucial role in making YPC 2023 a grand success!

Cheers to a brighter, more peaceful world, thanks to these extraordinary young minds! 🌍🤝

Actions for peace: Our ambition for the

UN Secretary-General Message for the 100-Day Countdown to the IDP
13 June 2023

Each year the International Day of Peace (IDP) is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. Never has our world needed peace more.
This year’s theme is Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the . It is a call to action that recognizes our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace. Fostering peace contributes to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will create a culture of peace for all.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said, “Peace is needed today more than ever. War and conflict are unleashing devastation, poverty, and hunger, and driving tens of millions of people from their homes. Climate chaos is all around. And even peaceful countries are gripped by gaping inequalities and political polarization.”

2023 marks the mid-point in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. The 2023 observance of the International Day of Peace coincides with the SDG summit (18 – 19 September) to mark the mid-point milestone.

The SDGs aim to bring us closer to having more peaceful, just, and inclusive societies, free from fear and violence. But without the buy-in and contribution of a wide range of actors including the 1.2 billion young people alive, the goals will not be achieved. We invite you to join the United Nations’ call to take action for peace: fight inequality, drive action on climate change, and promote and protect human rights.

2023 is also the 75th anniversary of both the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide. IDP 2023 encourages all youth to be ambitious in their engagement as positive and constructive social agents, to join the movement to reach the SDGs and contribute to building sustainable peace. Together we can help to lead our world towards a greener, more equitable, just, and secure future for all.
