Today I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Richmond Care Home to do some flower arranging with some of the residents - cake and tea included 🖤

I had the most amazing time chatting and getting to know some of the ladies as well as a dance 💃 Thank you for having me I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and il be back for more days!

Myself and Tasha Westwood are hoping to get the residents to The Soldiers - Shirebrook Ex-Servicemens Club for a dance and a game of bingo (also wine 🍷 and John Smiths 😂) one afternoon and hopefully make this a regular outing 😍

Yesterday I met with Mrs Burgin Principal of Shirebrook Academy to discuss numerous issues raised with myself.

With regards to uniform in extreme weather conditions - this has been taken further and Mrs Burgin does have a meeting with those who run the ACET trust to make further adjustments in extreme weather and she will keep me updated with the outcome.

Mrs Burgin was open and honest with me and I with her which was extremely refreshing if I’m honest.

I want to make a difference make that connection between school/home and community and so does Mrs Burgin we both feel that the only way to do this is by getting involved and to make that connection with parents/carers and so from September we will be creating a Parent and Carer forum we’re we will meet as a collective and discuss any issues wether that be with the school itself or the wider community we are looking for 15-20 parents/carers who would like to be a part of this - it’s a great opportunity to say what you need to say and a discussion had and also finding solutions to problems and celebrating the achievements of children aged 11-16.

I have received numerous messages this week regarding Shirebrook Academy and the current uniform policy during the hot weather ☀️⛅️

I have approached the school regarding parents concerns and have made a request of a meeting to discuss in further detail.

I have received a response and I am hoping to meet up next week - I cannot promise anyone anything but I can get parents/carers and most of all students voices heard and their point of view across in a positive way as well as listening to the school.

As a parent who’s children either attend or attended the school I feel it’s important to make a connection with the school itself as well as the staff, and it’s students as those students are the future of this town.

Yesterday I was sworn in as your local town councillor 🌹and I attended my first Town Council meeting. I have a lot to learn but I will be attending training to get a better understanding of my role.

I am now part of the following committees:
🌹 Operations Committee
🌹 Leisure Committee
🌹 Parish Council Liaison Group

We secured Shirebrook Miners Welfare FC their home ground up on Warren Terrace after they approached me for help ⚽️

I was also approached by a member of the public who was concerned with the state of the hedgerows/weeds and grass - although this issue does not fall at STC door and it is a Bolsover District issue - I have been assured that this is in hand and work is currently underway 🌸
