Aerials can also be used as therapy. Sarah, a 28-year-old, took weekly aerial classes for a year to manage her anxiety and depression. Aerials helped her to build strength and confidence, release tension, and reduce anxiety. The mental focus and concentration required for aerials also helped to quiet her mind and bring her into the present moment. Aerials gave her a new way to challenge herself, release stress, and find a sense of community. 💞

The process called galvanic corrosion is where steel can weaken aluminum when they are in contact. This created a misconception in the aerial world that you can not use steel & aluminum rigging together.
This is a false accusation for you need the following environmental factors to be present for the corrosion to happen; rainwater, humidity, or saltwater, and prolonged exposure.

So let the steel and aluminum hold hands. It’s not permanent or a toxic relationship.

Passé (which is actually an active position) for ⠀
Terminology Tuesday!⠀

Similar in shape to the retiré: the hip of the active leg (lower limb) is abducted and externally rotated (for turned out position) or internally rotated (for turned in), the knee is bent, the foot is pointed, and the toe touches the knee of the supporting limb. The active part of this movement is the foot passes on its way to another position, like through developé. ⠀

Retiré is the paused position like the pictures you see. Since the posted photos are at a stand still, it’s best to assume that these performers will transition soon after the photo was taken to have the active movement that happens in passé. Well, one would hope. ⠀

Myth OR Fact!

Myth! You CAN use steel & aluminum together.
This is a common misconception that needs to be addressed. This process called galvanic corrosion is where steel can weaken aluminum when they are in contact. However! The environmental factors such as rainwater, humidity, or saltwater need to be present as well. This is something to worry about for more permanent rigging.
