Recordando la entrevista del pasado Domingo 18 de Abril en por el programa de mis panas y en donde estuvimos conversando del rock y el futuro de este género en la industria musical!

🇻🇪 Aquí les presento mi cover de batería del tema "El Buzo" de GUACO La Súper Banda de Venezuela el cual fue originalmente interpretado por el gran maestro, colega y pana Fernando Valladares en el disco "Galopando" (2002). Esta canción tiene un importante valor sentimental para mí, pues fue uno de los primeros temas que aprendí con Marco Antonio Machado en La CAJA Escuela de Batería como parte del módulo de estudio del funk/latino/fusión hace más de 10 años... Todavía hoy el tema se mantiene vigente con el swing característico que define a la banda, o como diría Gustavo Aguado "Cinco estrellas papá!" ⭐

🇺🇸 Here I present my drum cover of the song "El Buzo" of GUACO La Súper Banda de Venezuela which was originally interpreted by the great master, colleague and friend Fernando Valladares in the record "Galopando" (2002). This song has an important sentimental value to me, because it was one of the first songs that I learned with Marco Antonio Machado at La CAJA Escuela de Batería as part of the funk/latin/fusion study module more than 10 years ago... 🇺🇸 Snare drum miking techniques!
On the vast majority of my sessions, I use two microphones on the snare. On the top I use a SM57 Cardioid Dynamic microphone located around 2 inches from the drumhead, pointing at the center of the head. The distance from the microphone to the head is crucial, closer distances not only yield higher amplitude on the recorded signal but also an increase of the low-end response because of the proximity effect of these cardioid microphones.

The bottom microphone is the incredibly versatile PM10 Cardioid Dynamic placed just like the top but inverted, almost like a mirror, pointing at the snare wires. The polarity is inverted on this preamp because the microphone is pointing upside down.

🇻🇪 Técnicas de microfoneo de redoblante!

En la gran mayoría de mis sesiones, utilizo dos micrófonos para el redoblante. En la parte superior, utilizo un micrófono SM57 cardioide dinámico localizado aproximadamente a dos pulgadas del parche, apuntando al centro. La distancia del micrófono al parche es crucial, distancias más cortas no solo aportan mayor amplitud de la señal grabada sino tambien un incremeno en la respuesta de baja frecuencia debido al efecto de proximidad de estos micrófonos cardioides.

El micrófono de la parte inferior es el increiblemente versatil PM10 cardioide dinámico, posicionado justo como el superior pero invertido, casi como un espejo, apuntando a los bordones (snare wires). La polaridad es invertida en el preamplificador porque el microfono está apuntando al revés.

🇺🇸 If you are a musician and you are making videos from home, chances are you use natural lighting (sunlight) when you film. Natural lighting tends to work pretty well (and it is free!), but it can make your videos look too warm sometimes. In order to fix this issue and perhaps obtain a more "professional look" you should explore your color correction tools. In my case, I use Premiere Pro and this program has a dedicated section for basic correction, color curves and other color-related creative effects. What about yours?

🇻🇪 Si eres músico y estás haciendo videos desde casa, probablemente estás utilizando la luz natural (luz solar) cuando grabas. La luz natural tiende a funcionar muy bien (y es gratuita!), pero puede hacer que tus videos luzcan muy cálidos a veces. Para solucionar este problema y quizás obtener un "look mas profesional" debes explorar tus herramientas de corrección de color. En mi caso, utilizo Premiere Pro y este programa posee una sección dedicada a corrección básica, curvas de color y otros efectos creativos. Y el tuyo?

🇺🇸 Let's talk about the microphone techniques I use on my toms at my studio ...

On my toms and floor toms, I typically use my Miktek PM10 cardioid dynamic microphones on the top head only, located around 2 inches from the head, pointing at the center. You can accentuate the low-end by placing the microphone even closer due the "proximity effect", but be careful because you could also be accentuating undesireable overtones.

As you can see, I currently have Remo Ambassador coated heads with the great Aquarian
Studio Rings to control the overtones.

En mis toms y granaderos, normalmente utilizo mis micrófonos Miktek PM10 dinámicos cardioides en el parche superior únicamente, localizados a 5 centímetros del parche aproximadamente, apuntando al centro del mismo. Puedes acentuar la respuesta de baja frecuencias al posicionar el micrófono aún mas cerca del parche por el "efecto de proximidad", pero ten cuidado pues podrías estar acentuando armónicos indeseables.

Como puedes ver, actualmente tengo parches Remo Ambassador corrugados con los excelentes Aquarian Studio Rings para controlar armónicos.

Being LOUD while recording drums for back in the summer of 2015 at Middle Tennessee State University's Studio A. Playing the beautiful kit, with my great AAX cymbals, my kick pedal and hitting my with the perfect 747 all wood sticks.

My first show with at in Franklin, TN back in 2015. Special thanks to for letting me use his beautiful sunburst kit with my AAX set and my Acrolite aluminum snare. The show was LOUD AND ANGRY. @ Franklin, Tennessee

One of the many studio recording sessions I had in Murfreesboro, TN, somewhere around 2015. We put together a blues/rock trio, playing really groovy 7/8 patterns at MTSU Studio B and cut some tracks for my friend and great producer Sam Mentzer - The groove was intense! (Note the beautiful 90s Yamaha Stage Custom that we borrowed from our friend Mark Kendree and the simplicity of the 4-piece + crash/ride/hihat set)

One of the first shows I ever played in the USA. Rocking the blues for the Colon Cancer Benefit Show @ The Boro Bar and Grill in Murfreesboro, Tennessee... We had so much fun that night!

Recording drums for CocoBeat's full-length album "Satelital" during the Fall of 2012 at in Maracaibo, Venezuela. I had so much fun with that DW kit!

Back in 2010 jamming some funky/disco drums for CocoBeat in Venezuela. I played with these guys for a couple years, it was a great experience. Cheers to my bros slapping the bass, killing the keys, slamming those skins, .david shredding the strings and on the vox!
