AN ADDRESS BY THE RIVERS NIGERIA CONFERENCE ICT/MEDIA DIRECTOR TO THE 2022 MEDIA RETREAT HOLDING ON THE 1ST – 3RD OF SEPTEMBER, 2022 AT THE AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL ZION CHURCH OGBEMA, ABUA WEST CENTRAL DISTRICT.

To God be thy Glory great things he has done. I bring to you Calvary greeting from our Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
I welcome you all to the 2022 Annual Media Retreat with the theme ‘’MEDIA’’ Essential Tool for Modern Worship, with the Sub theme Social Media a Drive to Church Publicity, Which is the focus of this year’s Retreat.

is a term which covers all the means of communication which have functions such as informing, raising awareness, , socialization, entertainment and agenda setting, including all kinds of oral, written and visual images.

Media is seen as websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. These includes Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Tiktok, etc.

When it comes to Church Publicity, the answer is the Media via the Social Media. Social Media allows Churches to connect with their members, as well as people who may not attend church. Websites like Facebook offer a free, easy way to promote church events and strengthen your community outside of church services.

When Jesus issued the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20), he said go into all the world. As we would always sing ‘’we must go with Jesus everywhere, no matter the roughness of the road’’ He wants us to go where people are, no matter where they are. Right now, at this moment in history, more people are on social media than ever before. If we want to reach them, we need to show up on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

Some of the Benefits of Social Media to the church includes:
• It is a great way to brand and market the church
• It allows the church to reach a wide variety of people; allowing the church to reach those who cannot reach the church one way or the other.

Note, Social Media has a reputation of bringing out the worst in people, but it can also be used to spread the truth of the gospel and to encourage fellow Christians in their walk of faith. Let us be sure to keep things positive and uplifting. And remember, our posts should be more than a way to advertise.

The best social media strategy is the one that brings the most engagement. Post video content that leads to discussion. Write posts that invite a response. Be sure to engage in conversations when they happen. Think of your social media presence as a way of publicizing the church, so be dedicated to it, and remember every click, like, and follow represents a real person with a real need to draw closer to the Lord.

Using social media primarily as a broadcast channel, at the end of the day, much discipleship comes down to teaching, and teaching can happen in many forms. It doesn't always have to be in person.

So let us consider the social media platform as an avenue to deliver content, blog posts, short teaching videos, of our church. People are hungry to learn more about the Lord and His Word, so feed your flock and anyone else who might tune in, do have a wonderful Media Retreat.
