Nanook never gets bored of travelling!
Nanook loves a good sugar bush! In the Quebec City area you can get them year round ! Yummy!
Nanook had the opportunity to see the Souq Wafiq on her 8 hr layover in Doha. It reminder her of Aladdin.. Arabian Nights!! Hot, sweaty, but a beautiful rich city. Then onto the Philippines, where she got to do a short visit to a local museum and taste some local food.
Nanook enjoyed exploring some caves today near Peterborough. A must see, but bring a head lamp and good shoes!
Got to cruise the Lift Lock in Peterborough!. I totally recommend this experience. Highest lift lock in the world. The marvel of lock systems is always fascinating.

If ever you want to visit Newfoundland and need some ideas, here is what we did!
RVing in Newfoundland! Our Month in Newfoundland! We started our trip on the island in the middle of May. It was WINDY for the first two weeks, to the point we thought we would blow off the road at times. Then it was rai…
Thailand, the land of smiles! Nanook was thrilled to spend a week discovering Bangkok and surrounding areas! Definitely a must see. ! Lots of cool temples with Buddhas (standing, lying, sitting, they have them all), floating markets, large outdoor markets, modern massive malls, beautiful architecture, and amazing people.
Massive Buddha's (sitting, standing and lying!) and amazing architecture in this "oriental city"
Had a great last night in Cheticamp, with a Fresh Lobster Supper with a couple of old friends! A huge thanks to Lester and Nancy for their generosity and hospitality!
Today we hiked the Skyline Trail of National Park. is breathtaking. I can only imagine the beauty in the fall with the fall colours. A stunning way to finish off our travels in Cape Breton.
Nanook enjoyed a nice walk to yet another waterfalls in national park! This was at the Corney Brook falls! Followed by a shorter walk on the Butterau trail where one can see the remains of the homesteads of the families that were moved to create the park. What is neat is we actually served with a couple of the grandkids! Small world
is beautiful even in a foggy day! Saw the Black Brook Falls, the Beulah Ban Falls, the Macintosh Brook falls, and the Aspy Fault line. Not to mention beautiful vistas throughout ! is a must see! Our Cape Breton National Park is beautiful
Lots of discoveries in the Platentia area. Castle Hill Historic Parks Canada Site was a true gem. Who knew the French had a fort here? We saw some old bunkers and cannons left over from the American Base that was here in Argentia (again, who knew?). We travelled to St. Mary's Ecological reserve and saw Ganetts, Murres, Kittiwakes and some seals. And right near the ferry to leave was the new construction "white Rose" for another oil platform. It was a great way to end our visit on this beautiful and picturesque island. A month went by way too quickly! Thank you to the people of the the hospitality over and over again.
As we leave St. John's area to head to Argentia to take the first ferry of the season from this end of the island, we will leave with fond memories of our time in . Some last pics of our hike around Signal Hill and a visit to Quidi Vidi. Great hikes, great vistas, and great memories with amazing friends. Seen lots of Icebergs. Caribou, Moose and Puffins. Spotted a Rock Ptarmigan, a few hares, even some whales off in the distance from shore. thank you for the memories!
Today was cape Spear Lighthouse (and the most Easterly point in North America) and a boat tour to the Witless Bird Sanctuary to see puffins, Murres and Kittiwakes. THOUSANDS of birds! Sadly the Whales were a little scarce on this trip.
Visiting the beautiful villages of Brigis and Cupids. Home of the show . Was thrilled to see the Gushu home (in blue) on our way from looking at the tunnel (built to be able to go the Bartlett ship and We visited the Parks Canada site of the Bartlett Arctic explorer, both in Brigis. Cupid was home to the first English settlement in Canada in 1601! We discovered the Burnt Head Trail and an huge sea arch large enough for a 17' boat! never ceases to amaze!
Nanook has had 2 great days in St. Johns. Visiting the Newman Port Wine vaults, the Anglican St John's Church and the Basilica of St John's and learning history and geology from "the Rooms", and the "Johnson Geo Centre", and the Park Canada discovery centre at Signal Hill. Still cold and rainy\foggy, it is Newfoundland after all!
The last couple of days we spent in the Bonavista area. Saw amazing landscapes, visited the lighthouse (with a built in Lightkeepers house), Trinity (which is a village like Upper Canada Village or Kings Landing, but some homes are still used and lived in), Ryan Premise (learning about the fishing industry) and got lobster direct from a fisherman. We are now in St. John's for the next week. Most of all, we go the 'trifecta' and saw Puffins, whales and an iceberg all on the same day!
Today we visited Bonavista and the Elliston area known as the "root cellar" capital of the world, but also a great place to see puffins right from the shore. It's nesting season for these little ones! In Bonavista we visited the Matthew ship (which John Cabot sailed to discover "new found land" and arrived in Bonavista
A beautiful discovery near Trinity.
Another great day! After heading south from Anse au Meadows, we stopped for lunch at Arches provincial park, slept a night in Deer Lake, left yesterday to make our way to Terra Nova National Park. (With a stop in Gander at the Aviation museum to learn how significant Gander was for international travel before jet flight). What a discovery! Terra Nova is a hidden gem with probably the best campground I have ever stayed at! Just beautiful. And a happy anniversary to our travel partners
From Fresh Lobster direct from the fishermen, to more and more icebergs as we drove up the coast to see the Vikings at Anse au Meadows, still continues to amaze us at every turn.
From lobster fresh from the fishermen to icebergs galore as we headed to the Viking settlement of . The island of continues to amaze us!
We are now in Port au Choix. We got to see a Caribou today out at the lighthouse! Some previous pictures of our Boat tour on the Western Brook Pond (an inland fjord) Simply beautiful!
Western Brook pond "fjord" boat tour. Amazing! So much geological discoveries ..carved by the ice age and beautiful vistas. This is a must see event. Started out snowing, which made a beautiful view of the mountains ... it was cold, but beautiful
never ceases to amaze! Today, on our 10th day in the island, we walked the lookout trail near the discovery centre in Gros Morne. From the top a beautiful view of the Bonne Bay Area, Gros Morne Mountain and the Tablelands where we walked yesterday.
From one extreme to another. Day 7 we left Twillingate area to come to Gros Morne area. We have a lovely camping on the waters edge where we have a baby seal that regularly plays and we have seen harbour porpoises. Today it was raining hard, but we found a spot to hike the tablelands. This is a MUST, it is where you can hike on the earths mantle! Very little grows on these "toxic" rocks. The rocks turn orange as they rust. Sometimes they turn into "serpentine" which is snake like. The "pitcher flower that grows there gets its nutrients from trapping bugs!
Day 6: Iceberg Quest Ocean Tours took us on a great tour to visit these beauties! Although many are visible from the land in Twillingate, I totally recommend doing a tour to get up close and personal!
Day 4: Springdale area. Did a day trip to Kings Point and saw some little icebergs. Rattling Brook Falls was spectacular! Also saw a Rock Ptarmigan! Wow!
Day 3: in Springdale! With a quick stop to glassy beach ! Still very windy, a little warmer.
Day 2, we did a day trip to Lark harbour, near Blow Me Down Park for a couple of short hikes. The views to drive there and once there are spectacular.
Day 1 on the island! First leg, Drive to Corner Brook. Saw a beautiful waterfalls, and carvings in a 500 year old tree. Very windy, and still snow on the tops of the mountains. Beautiful!
In Sydney NS. Great location to also visit Fort Louisbourgh. Got to see the largest Fiddle! Now off to Newfoundland
Off to a new adventure! Overnight in Sydney, NS.. then a ferry tomorrow to Newfoundland!
