FINALLY, the second part of our two-part decent into the Reformation!
We are going to give you:
A long winded list of famous reformation figures (with plenty of unpronounceable names).
Some of the major events which took place during the Reformation period (and...spoiler...it is mainly just warring).
A (potentially failed) attempt to find some humour in events that divided countries, towns, and families; and saw mortality rate not seen in Europe since the Black Death, and not again until the Napoleonic wars.
Ukraine has moved its official Christmas Day state holiday from 7 January to 25 December.
In recent years, Kyiv has been cutting religious, cultural and other ties with Russia, aligning itself with the West.
This not only aligns it with ‘the west’, but more significantly with both Catholic and Protestant denominations when it comes to one of the most important theological event in the Christian calendar.

Having visited Languedoc region as a teenager I didn’t fully appreciate the historical and religious turbulence felt in the area.
Went to Carcassonne and Montsegur, but didn’t fully appreciate the Albigensian Crusade until now.
On this day - 16th July 1054:
Three Roman legates break relations between Western and Eastern Christian Churches through the act of placing a Papal bull (of doubtful validity) of Excommunication on the altar of Hagia Sophia during Saturday afternoon divine liturgy. Historians frequently describe the event as the formal start of the East–West Schism.
The Schism of 1054 WILL be an future episode. It’s fascinating, and totally gets my geek juices flowing… maybe I should rephrase that!!
Episode 1 - Ark of the Covenant:
This episode focuses on the mysterious and ever sought after Ark of the Covenant. Shrouded in mystery dating back to the foundation of Israel, the Ark vanished without a single 'real' indication as to where it went...but there are plenty of theories! So come and join CEP as we look at the Ark's origins, the Biblical evidence for it, and the theories surrounding where it went...and some of these are a little wild! Also, apologies as I make a mess of Arabic and French!!!

New Episode Live Now!! On this episode we make a start on a topic so massive that we are going to use TWO episodes to discuss it (and even then it won't be enough)... The European Reformation!
If you last until the end of the episode you will have heard, in a seriously redacted manner, some of the background of the events that took place before the Reformation began. Then we do a quick character profile of THE most famous of all reformers, Martin Luther! The scourge of Popes and toilets alike, Luther drives a reforming stake right into the heart of the Catholic Church, and in turn starts the sn*******ng of events that would one day become known simply as 'The Reformation'. Spoiler: nothing simple about it!
