הרבה זמן לא יצא לנו לעבוד יחד. נוצר מצב והיום שני האחים הגדולים לא היו בבית והוא ביקש לעשות משהו מיוחד. נזכרתי באתרוגים שעוד ישבו אצלנו, והצעתי לו להכין בשמים לערכת הבדלה. הניצוץ בעיניים נדלק!!
כשהכנו יחד את המגש, הוא ביקש עוד תרגיל מים שמזמן לא עשינו.
אפשר היה לראות שממש חיכה והתגעגע לשקט הזה. הריכוז, המבט החיוך! איזה כיף!

Going with the current trend, only a bit different. Working on hand control, and controlling the amount of liquid in each spot.
When he was done, he collected the liquid using the pipette.

תמונה ישנה הזכירה לי פעילות שנורא כיפית לילדים ועוזרת לי במטלות הבית. הפמוטים שלי מזמן לא צוחצחו וישבו עגומים בארון. זו הזדמנות נהדרת לנקות אותם!

לפני שנתתי לערן את התרגיל, הראיתי לו איך משתמשים בפעילות. שיעור קצר לפני השימוש נותן לילד כלים איך לעבוד ומה סדר העבודה. אני אפרט את השלבים בתמונות עצמן.
מה שנפלא בפעילות כזו, הוא שהילד מקבל פידבק מיידי מהכלי כשהוא מסיים את התהליך. ברגע שערן ניגב את הפמוט עם המטלית, מיד התגלה לפניו החלק הכסוף הנקי והמואר שנתן לו אישור של עבודה טובה. לא היה לו צורך בתגובה ממני.
הבנים הגדולים מיד רצו להשתתף גם כן. ערן הסכים להתחלק וכל אחד עבר על חלק אחר. איזה כיף של שיתוף פעולה! אולי השבת נשתמש בפמוטים האלו.
Silver polishing! An old facebook memory reminded me of a really fun activity, that also helps me with my house work. My old silver candle sticks were not used for a long time and became tarnished in the cabinet. This is a great opportunity to give them a little bit of shine!
Materials:
Tooth paste- yes! It does the job and is kid friendly.
Tooth brush
Q-Tips
Sponge
A little water in a bowl
Cleaning cloth
Before I let Eran try the work, I gave him a lesson on how to use it. A short, concise lesson before the activity gives the child the skills and confidence to try, and the order of work. I will explain the stages in the pictures.
What is really fantastic in the activity, is the immediate feedback the child receives from the item he is polishing at the end of the process. When Eran used the cleaning cloth to wipe the area he brushed, he immediately saw the silver shiny part and knew he did well. He did not need any reaction or approval from me.
My big boys asked to join as well, watched the lesson and tried themselves. Eran was happy to let them participate and they took turns polishing different parts of the candle stick.
Maybe we will light them this shabbat!

פייסבוק הזכיר לי את הזיכרון הנפלא הזה של הבן הגדול שלי מנקה פמוט מכסף בגן המונטסורי שלו. נזכרתי כמה קל לגרום לזה לקרות וכמה כיף, ריכוז ועבודה על מוטוריקה יכולה לעלות מתרגיל כל כך פשוט. שבוע הבא אכין תרגיל לקטן ,ותאמינו לי, יש לי מה לצחצח. יש למה לצפות!! שבת שלום!
Facebook reminded me today this wonderful memory of my oldest polishing a silver candle stick in his Montessori preschool.
I remember how much fun, satisfaction, concentration and fine motor work can happen in such a simple exercise.
I will make silver polishing work for my youngest after the weekend, and trust me, I have items for him to polish! Something to looks forward to!! Shabbat shalom!!

צבעי יסוד וצבעים משניים.
את התרגיל הזה כבר הצגתי לערן בעבר, אבל הוא בהחלט המועדף עליו.
בביקור בחנות סטוק השכונתית, מצאתי את הכוסות האלה ומיד ידעתי שהן יהיו מעולות בשביל התרגיל הזה כי אפשר לראות הצבעים בצורה מאד מיוחדת וברורה.
התחלנו עם צבעי היסוד שאותם ערן כבר מכיר: אדום, כחול, צהוב. השתמשנו במים מהולים בצבעי מאכל. מה קורה כשמערבבים ביניהם?.
העבודה עם טפטפות קטנות(שגם אותן רכשתי בחנות הסטוק) מחזקת את היכולות המוטוריות העדינות וחיזוק האצבעות. עבדנו בעבר עם טפטפות, התחלנו עם אחת גדולה להעביר נוזלים מקערה אחת לשניה, כך שערן כבר יודע ומורגל בעבודה עם טפטפות. לכן, כשנחשף לתרגיל הזה, נקודת העניין היתה באמת רק בחקר הצבעים ולא בהעברה עצמה.
בתרגיל זה נשאב מעט מן הצבע הכחול לתוך הכוס הראשונה. אליה נוסיף מעט מן הצבע האדום. מה הם יוצרים יחד? סגול!
נחזור על הפעולה עם הצבע האדום והצהוב. מה קיבלנו? כתום! ומה קורה כשמערבבים כחול וצהוב? ירוק!
בסיום התרגיל, כל הכוסות נמזגות לכוס אחת. גם זה מן גילוי חדש, איזה צבע יצא מכל הצבעים יחד?
ואז החלק שערן ממש אוהב, לנקות את המגש והכוסות עם ספוג שנמצא על המגש במיוחד לרגע זה.
Primary and secondary colors.
I presented this activity to Eran in the past and it is definitely a favorite.
In a visit to a nearby store, I found these shot glasses and immediately knew they will be perfect for this work and had to reintroduce it to Eran.
We started with the primary colors: red, blue and yellow. We mixed water with food coloring inside medicine dropper bottle I also found in a nearby store. Working with droppers strengthen the hands and refines fine motor skills. We have worked with droppers in the past. We started with a bigger dropper and used it to transfer liquids from one bowl to the next. This way, by the time Eran tried this activity, his only point of interest was just fi doing out what happens with the colors and not the actual transferring of the liquids.
What happens when we mix the primary colors? Using the dropper, we will draw a bit of the blue into the first cup. We will then add a bit of the red. What did we get? It is purple! We will repeat with the red and yellow in the second cup. What did we get? Orange! And what happens when we mix blue and yellow? We get green!
When we are all done, all cup are being poured in a fourth cup. The assumption is always that all the colors would create black. Eran was surprised to see that he got a shade of brown.
And of course, his favorite part: wiping down the tray and the cups with a specially prepared sponge.

פוינטוליזם!!
זו לא מילה מפחידה, אלא ציור עם נקודות. בזמן הזה שנה שעברה טיילנו בין עצי השקדיה. השנה, אנחנו מפספסים את הפריחה, אז אחרי שציפינו בתמונות משנה שעברה, החלטנו ליצור עץ שקדיה משלנו.
החלטנו להשתמש בשיטת פוינטוליזם (ובדרך ללמוד עליה קצת) לצביעת העץ. אחרי ששרטטתי עץ עם עיפרון, ערן השתמש במקל אוזניים לטבול בצבע החום ולעבור תוך יצירת נקודות על הקווים.
כשהעץ התייבש, השתמשנו בכמה מקלות אוזניים מחוברים עם גומיה, כדי ליצור עלים ופרחי השקדיה. השתמשנו גם בתחתית של בקבוק קולה ליצירת פרחים גדולים יותר.
פעילות זו לא פשוטה וערן לקח כמה הפסקות כדי לתת לידיים שלו לנוח. ניתן גם לראות בצבע החום באיזה צד התחיל, ושם הנקודות מסודרות יותר, לצד שסיים, שם הן קצת פחות. כאשר סיים, הוא לקח נשימה, הסתכל על היצירה וחייך. זהו, הוא שמח.
כשהאח הגדול שלו ראה מה הוא עשה, הטכניקה הזכירה לו את קשקשי הנחש, ומיד החליט להצטרף לשיעור אומנות.
Pointillism is not a scary word! It is a painting technique.
This time last year, we went on a trip to enjoy the beautiful almond tree blossom. This year, we could only enjoy the pictures from our trip. After looking at those pictures, we decided to make our own blossoming almond tree.
In a way of learning about pointillism, we decided to create our tree using the technique. After sketching the tree and branches with a pencil, Eran dipped a Q-tip in paint and traced over the pencil using dots.
When the tree dried, we made flowers and leaves using Q-tips that were tied together with a rubber band. We also used the bottom of a soda bottle to make bigger flowers.
This was not an east activity and Eran took some breaks to let his hand relax. It is also apparent in the brown paint when he started, and the dots are more aligned and organized, as opposed to when he ended, and it is a little less organized.
When he finished, he breathed a sigh of accomplishment, looked at his painting and smiled. This is it, he is happy.
When his older brother saw the technique, it reminded him of the snake's scales and he decided to join the lesson.

ערן הבוקר ביקש את התרגיל עם המברג. כשהתחיל את התרגיל לפני מספר שבועות, התלהב נורא, אבל גם התעייף מאד מהעבודה עם הידיים. הידיים כאבו לו והוא החליט להפסיק. מדי פעם ביקש את התרגיל שוב, ולא סיים. הסברתי לו שהוא מחזק את הידיים ועובד קשה. הסברתי גם שכדאי קודם להתחזק עם המברג לפני שעוברים לתרגיל הבא.
הוא הודיע לי הבוקר שהיום הוא מצליח! וכשהוא שם לעצמו מטרה, כנראה זה מצליח באמת. הוא סיים וביקש את השלב הבא.

This morning Eran asked for the screw driver work. When he started working with this activity a few weeks ago, he really enjoyed it, but fatigued quickly. His hands were hurting and he decided to stop. Every once in a while he tried again, and stopped again.
We spoke about how hard it might be, challenging even. We also discussed how his hands feel and how strong they are getting. I explained that he needs to be able to complete the screw driver level before moving to the next one.
This morning he informed me that today is the day, he will complete it! When he decides, I guess that's enough. He managed to get all the screws in, and then out. He took a deep breath, and asked for the next stage.

צבעי מים.
ערן נורא רצה לצבוע בצבעי מים, אבל רצה שאצייר לו משהו ולא ידע מה הוא רוצה שאצייר. החלטנו לעשות ניסוי עם הצבע הלבן.
אני ציירתי לו משהו עם הצבע הלבן על הדף הלבן כך שלא יכל לראות מה ציירתי. ערן השתמש בצבעי המים לצבוע את הדף ולגלות מה ציירתי לו. כל פעם שמצא קו או שרטוט, צהל משמחה! בסופו של התהליך, ערן היה מאד גאה בתנור שיצא לו.
Today we used water colors. Eran wanted to paint, but wanted me to draw a picture for him. He did not know what he wanted me to draw, so we decided to create an experiment with the white crayon.
I drew something using the white crayon on the white paper. Eran used the watercolors to paint and find my drawing, and figure out what I drew. Each time he found a line or part of the sketch, he was giggling! At the end of the process, Eran was very proud of his creation.

מה זה מספר? מה הוא מייצג? (English follows)
בפעילות זו, הילד לומד לקשר בין המספר, הסמל, לכמות אותה הוא מייצג. כאן יש את המספרים 1-8 (רק בגלל שעוד לא הכנתי את 9 ו-10) בסלסלה ישנם המספרים וחפצים שמצאתי בבית, כל סוג של חפץ תואם לכמות שהמספרים מייצגים.
הפעילות נעשית על שטיחון כדי לעזור לילד לתחום את שטח העבודה שלו ושומר על הסדר הנחוץ לילד בגיל הזה.
בשלב הראשון, הילד יוציא רק את המספרים מן הסלסלה ויסדר אותם משמאל לימין לפי הסדר.
לאחר הילד יוציא את החפצים וימיין אותם לפי הסוג, כל הדברים הדומים יחד.
כשהכל ממויין, נחפש מה יש לנו רק 1 ממנו. לאחר מה יש לנו שניים וכו' . בכל פעם, הילד יספור כאשר הספירה נעשית על ידי נגיעה בחפץ כדי לוודא שסופרים אחד אחד. כשיגיעו למספר שמחפשים, יניחו תחת הסמל. אצרף וידאו בפוסט הבא להדגים.
פעילות מאד מהנה עם ההטבות של מוטוריקה עדינה, התאמת עין-יד, והבנת הכמויות מאחורי המספרים. ערן מאד נהנה לספור ולהתאים!
What is a number and what does it represent? In this activity, the child understands the connection between the symbol and the quantity it represents.
In the basket we have the numbers 1-8 (I haven't made 9 and 10 yet...). There are also items I found throughout the house, each item matches with its quantity to the numbers in the basket. We will use a rug for this work. The rug helps the child keep the materials in order, and gives the child limits he can work in.
At first, the child will remove the numbers and set them up, left to right and in order.
He then will remove the items from the basket and sort them to like items together.
When the items are sorted, he then will look what he has only 1 of. He will count the items and when he will find the 1 item, he will place it under the number one. He will continue with 2 and the rest of the number.
It is important that when the child counts, he touches the items one by one to assure correct counting. I will post a video to show how it is done.
This is a fun activity with the added bonuses of fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and understanding the connection between numbers and their value. Eran truly enjoyed it!
