Dear members and friends of the Kansas City Buddhist Center,
It is with a heavy heart that we share a significant decision that we have made regarding the future of our beloved community. After much contemplation and consideration, we have decided to close the Kansas City Buddhist Center.
We began this sangha and community in response to a heartfelt call from many of you who yearned for a Buddhist community created by Buddhists, rather than a Christian community with a Buddhist program added on. In response to that call, we embarked on a journey to establish a rented space, develop a mission, establish ethical guidelines, and secure a 501c3 organizational status. We boldly chose to operate on a 100% volunteer basis, ensuring that our collective efforts would guide our community's growth.
When the pandemic struck, we were forced to pause our in-person gatherings due to the constraints of social distancing and group gatherings. In the face of these challenges, we quickly adapted by moving our activities online. Ngakpa Ronn Pawo McLane played an instrumental role during this time, leading meditations on various platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and our website feed for over a year.
Several months ago, we began holding monthly gatherings at Seeking Solace Yoga in Overland Park. Some of these gatherings garnered significant attendance and created cherished moments, while others saw only a few attendees. However, the truth remains stark: without regular in-person services, classes, and events, we have struggled to secure the necessary financial support to sustain the essentials of our organization.
The cost of reestablishing ourselves with rent, insurance, and other expenses is simply not sustainable for the continued operation of our organization. It is with a deep sense of regret that we have come to this difficult decision to close the Kansas City Buddhist Center.
We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support, dedication, and engagement that you have brought to our community throughout the years. Your presence and commitment have been the driving force behind our shared journey, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to every one of you.
While this may mark the end of our physical gathering space, we hope that the teachings and experiences shared within our community will continue to resonate within your hearts and guide you on your paths. The connections and friendships forged during our time together will forever remain a cherished part of our collective journey.
As we move forward, we encourage you to seek out other Buddhist communities and centers where you can continue to nurture your practice and find support. There are many excellent resources available that can provide the guidance and inspiration you seek.
Thank you, once again, for your support, and understanding, and for being a part of this beautiful journey. May the seeds of wisdom and compassion that have been planted here continue to grow and flourish in your lives.
With profound gratitude and heartfelt wishes,
The Board & Officers of
The Kansas City Buddhist Center
πΈ Important Announcement from Ngakpa Ronn Pawo McLane πΈ
Dear friends and members of the Kansas City Buddhist Center,
I hope this post finds you all in good health and high spirits. Today, I am writing to share an important update regarding an upcoming event at our center. Beginning May 28th, 2023, I will be taking a short sabbatical, and I am scheduled to return on July 2nd, 2023.
During this period, I will be embarking on a personal retreat to delve deeper into my spiritual practice. This time of seclusion and reflection is crucial for my own growth and will ultimately benefit our entire community. Your understanding and support mean the world to me as I dedicate myself to this transformative journey.
I want to inform you that, as a result of my sabbatical, there will be some adjustments to our center's schedule. For the month of June, there will be no weekly open practice sessions on Zoom, and the monthly Dharma gathering at Seeking Solace Yoga will be on hold. Additionally, there will be no online classes offered, and no other teachers will be stepping in during this period.
I understand that these changes may disrupt a few participants' usual routine, and I apologize for any inconvenience caused. However, I encourage you to continue your personal practice and explore the wealth of resources available to you. Dive into recorded teachings, engage in self-guided meditation, and connect with fellow practitioners to nurture your spiritual growth during this time.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and dedication to our spiritual community. Your commitment to the teachings and the kindness you show one another continually inspire me.
I apologize once again for any inconvenience caused by these temporary adjustments. Your understanding and cooperation are deeply appreciated. I am confident that this period of introspection and renewal will allow me to return with fresh perspectives and teachings to share with our community.
Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to the Kansas City Buddhist Center. May your own spiritual journey continue to flourish with inner peace, insight, and profound growth during this time.
With heartfelt blessings,
Ngakpa Ronn Pawo McLane
