STEMania Spring and Summer 2024

STEMania had the pleasure to be the Diamond 💎 Sponsor for the Sarasota County School STEM Fair. We awarded 1️⃣2️⃣ Summer Camps for Elementary School and cash prizes 💰💰💰 to Middle and High Schools to the Overall Category Winners! 🥇 🏆 We also set up STEM Challenges and Robotics at the Family Expo!

STEMania Owners and Founders, Curtis and Alisa Craig were judges and were inspired by the future of these students who had such great creativity and passion for STEM! We are so proud of our future and can't wait to see their successes!

More than 7500+ students participated in the county from public, private, charter, and homeschools. 800 students who were winners of their schools moved on to the 2nd Rounds for virtual judging. On February 22, the top 300 students competed in the finals rounds, presenting to a panel of judges.

Congratulations to those who participated and made it to this final round!

Join us this Feb 22 at the Sarasota County STEM Fair Family Expo at Robarts Arena, 5-7pm. We will have Robotics and STEM Challenges for the students.

STEMania is proud to have launched Project STEM Impact to 5 Title l Elementary Schools in Sarasota County! We will be teaching 125 students every week afterschool for the next 1.5 years! This will be at no cost for the students and their families! These are schools which have a high percentage of low income families. We have always taught to several Title 1 Schools throughout the county every year. However, this is the longest program that has been initiated for continuous impact!

Afterschool programs help children gain interest and skills related to STEM. Students from low-income families have less access to STEM learning programs. Excited to make an impact to these students!

We have been working nonstop for this program to happen with funding, programming, lesson kitting, and training! Thank you for all who have made this happen and our mission to provide STEM to all students! 🥰Our hearts are so full!

We have sponsored and been judges for the Sarasota County STEM Fair since we started STEMania! We are always excited to talk to these young, inquisitive minds about all things STEM! Our ❤️ is full! STEMania was able to secure a room at the Venice High School Evacuation Shelter. We made the kids smile and laugh. We were happy to hear that they were able to find alternative housing and that the shelter closed yesterday. 🥰

Sneak a peek at the deepest and sharpest infrared image of the early universe ever taken — all in a day’s work for the Webb telescope. (Literally! Webb was able to capture this image in less than one day, while similar deep field images from Hubble can take multiple weeks.)

This is Webb’s first image released as we begin to : nasa.gov/webbfirstimages/

If you held a grain of sand up to the sky at arm’s length, that tiny speck is the size of Webb’s view in this image. Imagine — galaxies galore within a grain, including light from galaxies that traveled billions of years to us! Why do some of the galaxies in this image appear bent? The combined mass of this galaxy cluster acts as a “gravitational lens,” bending light rays from more distant galaxies behind it, magnifying them.

This image isn’t the farthest back we’ve ever observed. Non-infrared missions like COBE and WMAP saw the universe much closer to the Big Bang (about 380,000 years after), when there was only microwave background radiation, but no stars or galaxies yet. Webb sees a few hundred million years after the Big Bang.

The James Webb Space Telescope is an international collaboration between NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the ESA - European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency. The Space Telescope Science Institute is the science and mission operations center for Webb.
