We the concerned taxpayers and citizens,

In reviewing the Cody/Kilgore school bond proposal, we have serious concerns. Currently, Nebraska is ranked sixth in the nation for state tax. Our governor and legislature are working diligently to address the land tax issue because they know what it is doing to our economy. If this bond were to pass, landowners’ taxes would pay for 95% of the bond.

Landowners support local businesses. We buy fuel, feed, auto supplies and vet supplies. We hire local truckers and local contractors. If this bond passes, it would force landowners to make cutbacks that will negatively impact the Cody/Kilgore community financially.

Agriculture is the backbone of our community. It has always been lucrative because of land appreciation. If this bond were to pass, it would have the opposite effect for landowners. It would financially burden an industry that has been in financial straits for some time.

We support our teachers. They have done an excellent job teaching our children and preparing them for the future. However, we feel there are other cost-effective options that need to be explored such as manufactured housing. There needs to be a more financially sensible solution that won’t burden taxpayers.

We encourage everyone to vote “No” on the Cody/Kilgore $6.5 million school bond proposal.
