Hi all! Carrie here! Last year, when Kyra first challenged me to consider the way I used word “Abrahamic”—when making statements about Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—I was really confused.
Because that's, technically, the kind of religion they are.
But as Westerners, we are notorious for making generalised statements about groups of people who don't do things the way we do.
I think about it like this: you can say you've gone to Africa.
But Africa's not a country.
Did you go to Nigeria? Because for all I know, you could've gone to Egypt. Or South Africa. All three of them vastly different cultures in their own right.
This episode with Kyra is honestly my favourite of our current season so far. I learnt a s**t tonne.

Hey! Carrie here!
Everything inside of me pushed back against writing this. Like I was just gonna choose an fun, easy topic.
But I'm glad I faced this. I learnt some pretty significant things about myself in the process.
I just want to say thanks to everyone who commented on the Facebook post I mention in this piece.
I haven't used your comments yet as I want to save them for later pieces that feel more relevant to what you've said. And I really want to do your words justice.
Here's to all of us figuring out the hard stuff together.

Today on Carrie's blog, she's sharing something that not a lot of people know about her: she was all set on the path to become a filmmaker when she was younger.
But fundamentalism crushed her dreams.
Now she's taking them back in what little ways she can.
