AHA

➪ AHAs or Alpha hydroxy acids are skincare actives that are used in many products like cleansers, serums, toners, creams and especially chemical peels.
➪ There are various types of Alpha hydroxy acids as shown above and they’re useful for various skincare routines.
➪ In general all AHAs are great exfoliators and because of this property are used for rejuvenation, acne and improving uneven skin tone.
➪ Over and above they’re also useful agents for anti-aging, fighting wrinkles and dark spots.
➪ Over the counter products usually have lower concentrations of AHAs while chemical peels used by dermatologists contain a higher concentration of these products.
🚨 If you’re someone who has never used AHAs before it is advisable to start slow, possibly with lower concentrations and 2-3 days a week and then gradually upscale.
🚨 Though they’re generally very well tolerated when used correctly, incorrect usage can cause irritation, dryness, burning ,erythema or darkening of skin.
👩🏻‍⚕️ Contact a dermatologist who can help you to choose the correct AHA product for your skin.

Skin is the largest organ of the body and whatever goes inside the body is often reflected on skin in some way.
COVID-19 is also seen to have some cutaneous manifestations along with multi systemic involvement.
Here’s a short review of the common skin manifestations of COVID-19 that have been identified.
Some of these are seen before the onset of typical symptoms, during the disease course or some even during the recovery phase of infection.
While it is important to keep yourself updated about these skin lesions, it is also equally important to know that not everything that appears on your skin is a covid rash.
Hence one should not panic unnecessarily but at the same time be aware of these conditions.

✅ Majority of you who took the poll answered that you did show some signs of dermatitis.
👉 Recent study done at a medical college in Mangalore shows that 2/3rd of health care workers who practice strict covid precautions experienced some degree of hand dermatitis.
🤷🏻‍♀️ While it is inevitable and necessary to follow these protocols to break the chain of transmission,
Here are some simple Do’s and Don’ts which you could follow.
👩🏻‍⚕️ Also remember, in certain cases you might need to consult a dermatologist who could prescribe some topical steroids or other necessary medications for you.
😇 Hope this has been helpful!!

Hi, it’s been a long time since I posted here. So with pandemic going on out there, each one of us is fighting a battle of our own.
What we can do at this stage is to get vaccinated, stay at home as much as possible, though that itself is a privilege not extended to all.
That’s one way we can keep us and our loved ones safe while we wait for the tide to pass.
We as doctors, get so many queries and calls every day related to COVID. We have been helping and are here to help.
Each one is doing the best they can. Though I am not a covid expert, I am here to help as much as possible and lead on to appropriate sources when required.
Also for those seeking medical advice regarding their skin, hair or nail related issues, I offer online consultations for the same. So you can stay at home and avail the services.
For booking an appointment you can WhatsApp on +919868996951 or DM on my Instagram or page.
We are all in this together. Get vaccinated. Let’s stay home and stay safe.

In this post I shall try to explain in simpler terms, how hair reduction by laser works.
⚡️ The laser is targeted towards the base of hair follicle without damaging the top layer of skin.
⚡️ This energy is absorbed by the black melanin pigment at the root of hair follicle.
⚡️ As a result, large amount of heat is released which damages the hair root.
⚡️ This consequently slows down the hair growth considerably and also the hair which grows thereafter is thinner and lighter in texture like vellus hair.
More info in the pictures below 👇.
Remember it is hair reduction and not permanent hair removal!!.
Always consult a dermatologist to guide you through laser treatments.

Periorbital pigmentation or dark circles as it is commonly known is a very common concern for many.
It often gives the person a tired and weary look.
I shall be covering this topic in parts.
Hereby, I have discussed the common causes leading to shadowing or dark circles.
Quite commonly it is a mix of different factors.
If you have any queries regarding dark circles, you can drop it below in the comments section or DM me. I’ll try to cover it up in subsequent parts. 🙂

Am sure most of us are taking maximum precautions possible to keep ourselves and our loved ones at home safe from COVID-19.
Washing of hands is emphasised as one of the most important ways to keep covid at bay.
So all of us, especially those in medical field, have been washing hands frequently, often frantically and obsessively, just to be sure.
🧼While soap and water clears off the germs and viruses, it also strips your skin off the natural protective oils.
🧼It disturbs the skin barrier and makes it more prone to conditions like dryness, eczema and infections.
🧼Many ( including myself) experience dryness, itching, scaling of hands as a side effect.
💫 While you take necessary steps to keep safe from the infections and as we are looking at a long haul here, you can take the following steps to keep your hands safe, soft and supple:
🤲 Pat your hands dry after washing instead of rubbing vigorously.
👌While the skin is moist, after each wash apply a layer of moisturiser to seal in the moisture.
✌️I would recommend using heavy moisturisers, hand creams here. Something as simple petroleum jelly, coconut oil would also work equally well.
🙌 Over and above this, there are certain chemical peels and other hand rejuvenation treatments available for those interested.
👉 In case you have developed conditions like eczema or infections, you should consult your dermatologist who can prescribe necessary medications.
😊 So keep safe and don’t forget to take care of yourself and your hands.

✔️ One of the major complaints and commonly asked question to a dermatologist is regarding abnormal skin hyperpigmentation.
💛 Here’s a blog to provide some basic information about skin pigmentation issues and its treatment options.
🔗 To read you can click on the link below.

https://dramibadheka.wordpress.com/2020/07/28/abnormal-hyperpigmentation-heres-what-you-should-know/

👩🏻‍⚕️ What I have discussed in here, is abnormal skin hyperpigmentation, which is pathological and represents one of the major dermatological concerns for Indian population.
👩🏻‍⚕️ Variation in skin tone, in people across the globe, due to variation in constitutive pigmentation is a natural phenomenon and is determined by one's genes.
▪️ The most commonly encountered hyperpigmentation disorders here are melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, sun spots, dark circles etc.
▪️Abnormal hyperpigmentation is caused by factors which affect normal melanogenesis.
▪️These factors could be exposure to Ultra Violet rays, hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, nutritional deficiencies, certain phototoxic drugs, post-inflammation, allergic reactions, thyroid disorders, liver diseases etc.
🔶 All of this and the treatment options are discussed in detail in the blog post. You can read it by clicking on the link given above. 😊.

Vitamin D and Skin.
❓Did you know?.
🔹 Studies show that almost 80-90 % of the population in India is deficient in Vitamin D.
🔹Vitamin D is actually a fat soluble pro hormone, with primary role in calcium homeostasis.
🔹Vitamin D is synthesised in Skin on exposure to Ultraviolet B rays.
🔹Other sources of Vitamin D are fish, fortified food and supplements.
🔹It is shown to play a role in several skin conditions like psoriasis, acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, alopecia areata, hairfall etc.
Also.
🔻Maintaining normal turn over of skin cells.
🔻Maintaining cutaneous immunity.
🔻Hair follicle cycling.
🔻Regulation and function of sebaceous glands.
🔻Photo protection.
🔻Wound healing.
🔹 Those who are deficient require Vitamin D3 supplementation and are advised daily exposure to sunlight. Contact your doctor for proper dosage and schedule.

☘︎︎ Considered ‘the holy grail’ of skincare.
☘︎︎ These are topical Vitamin A derivatives.
☘︎︎ They come in different strengths and formulations.
☘︎︎ Retinoids are prescription strength and the stronger version, while retinol are milder and available in OTC products.
☘︎︎ They are useful in all skin types.
☘︎︎ Useful for acne, oily skin, pigmentation, ageing, sunspots, wrinkles, enlarged pores, skin tightening, skin texture, rejuvenation and much more.
☘︎︎ Drying / irritation is a known effect of its use. This can be managed and should be used under the guidance of a dermatologist.
☘︎︎ I believe in minimalistic skin care. And if there’s one product that you should be using for rejuvenation, glow, health of skin, I would say use retinol.
☘︎︎ The recommendations given at the end are some easily available and affordable options. However they’re to be used under guidance of your dermatologist only.
Keep swiping 🙂.

How to layer your skincare products:
❣︎ I believe in minimalistic skincare.
❣︎ You do not necessarily need to put multiple things on your face if you do not have any skin issues.
❣︎ While some like to indulge in elaborate skincare routines , others like to go minimalistic.
❣︎ While it is a matter of choice for some, for others who are under treatment for skin conditions, it is often mandatory to use multiple products.
➪ So this applies for anyone who is using more than one skin product.
➪ The basis and the order essentially remain the same.
➪ Products are to be applied from the thinnest to thickest. Waster based followed by oil based.
➪ This is the general principle. However, it may differ for certain products, always follow instructions by your dermatologist.
𒊹︎All the steps are not mandatory, it is just a general order of steps. I have mentioned them as different people might be using different products for various indications.
1️⃣ Cleanser.
2️⃣ Toner.
3️⃣ Mist.
4️⃣ Serum.
5️⃣ Eye cream.
6️⃣ Spot treatment.
7️⃣ Moisturiser.
8️⃣ Sunscreen in daytime (always on the top).
➪ Give some time in between two steps for the product to be absorbed.

At the end of another long day,.
Though the bed 😴may seem so inviting,.
Here are some basics of night skin care which you could stick to.

💁🏻‍♀️ You do not need the famed 10 step night skincare routine because frankly most of us do not have the time and energy for it.

1️⃣Cʟᴇᴀɴsᴇ - 💦Double cleansing to remove your makeup, sebum, pollution, debris and build up.
First step is oil based cleanser followed by water based cleanser.
2️⃣Nᴏᴜʀɪsʜ - 🌸After being subjected to sun, heat, AC , pollution etc throughout the day, your skin needs nourishment in the form of a moisturer.
The choice of moisturiser depends on your skin type.
Those with oily skin can use light gel or serum based moisturisers containing hyaluronic acid, while dry skin type can use thicker ones.
(✔️I have previously done posts on cleansers and moisturises which talk in depth about these.).
3️⃣Rᴇᴘᴀɪʀ - 🧚🏼‍♀️Retinol is the magic molecule for skin repair and anti ageing. This comes in various preparations like serums, creams, gels etc and different strengths .
Other ingredients like glycolic acid, lactic acid, niacinamide, coenzyme Q10 are also useful.
Step 2️⃣ and 3️⃣ can be combined in certain products available in the market or they can be layered individually.

❤️These are the basic skincare steps which suffice for almost every skin.
♥︎ More steps are added to this if you have any specific skin issues like acne, pigmentation, scars , dark circles etc.
♥︎ Consult a dermatologist who can help you choose the correct products for your skin.
♥︎ Follow these simple steps. In case of any doubts you can post it in the comment section below or DM me 🙂

Telogen Effluvium.
𒊹︎ ‼️One of the most common causes of diffuse hairfall.
𒊹︎ 🙍🏻‍♀️🙎🏻‍♂️Observed in all age groups and males as well as females.
𒊹︎ 😖Often very distressing to the individual.
𒊹︎ 🧚🏻‍♀️𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 !!.
➪ Telogen is the resting phase of hair cycle.
➪ Under conditions of extreme stress upto 70 % of hair can go into Telogen phase and start shedding.
➪ However this is reversible unless in very severe case.
➪ Any underlying cause if detected has to be addressed.
➪ Keep swiping here to read more about it.

😣 Acne often leaves behind pits and depressions.
😇 Acne scars are generally not a medical condition.
🤗 Treatment options are available for those who find them bothersome, limiting and disfiguring.
🤷🏻‍♀️ The Best Treatment for acne scars is prevention.
✅ Starting early treatment for acne and avoiding picking of scars are the two most important preventive measures.
🌀 There are multiple options available for treatment of atrophic scars like chemical peels, microneedling, ablative laser treatments, subcision , excision and grafting, fillers, fat grafting etc.
👩🏻‍⚕️ Your dermatologist will choose the correct treatment for you based on your skin and scars and give you a specific set of instructions.
🤜 Treatment for acne scars typically goes on for a few months, to allow for optimum collagen remodelling and results..

Those irritating pesky skin coloured bumps
𒊹︎which don’t come off.

𒊹︎Are not red, inflamed, itchy or pus filled like acne.
𒊹︎could be ℂ𝕃𝕆𝕊𝔼𝔻 ℂ𝕆𝕄𝔼𝔻𝕆ℕ𝔼𝕊 / 𝕎ℍ𝕀𝕋𝔼 ℍ𝔼𝔸𝔻𝕊.
➪ These are caused by plugging of the sebaceous glands by debris, dead cells, sebum etc.
➪ Unlike open comedones/ black heads they do not have an opening and hence it’s not easy to get rid of them.
➪ There’s sometimes a fungal component involved with comedonal acne.
➪ Use of incorrect products on your face can cause closed comedones.
➪ Wrong exfoliation methods or insufficient exfoliation could also be a factor.
➪ Keep swiping to read more on how to manage these comedones.

Hair thinning out from front??.
Like tying your hair up in a tight ponytail? Bun?.
Here’s what you should know 👇.
𒊹︎Traction alopecia is a form of alopecia, or gradual hair loss, caused primarily by 𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿. This commonly results from the sufferer frequently wearing their hair in a particularly 𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹, 𝗽𝗶𝗴𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱𝘀...
