SPOILER ALERT: I’m closing up shop with good things on the horizon.

RE: The Future of Jillian Pancini Photography (In a lot of words)
*
I've been meaning to write something for some time now, but haven't quite known what to say. I still don't really.
*
I've got a lot of friends and family members with severe mental illness, several with psychosis/schizophrenia. My stepdad, who I grew up with, was schizophrenic. He sadly passed two years ago. I've always been curious about the strange and/or dark places our minds can go and why, so I've always enjoyed talking with people who experience these things.
*
About two years ago, I started really questioning the possibility of becoming a clinical psychologist and doing schizophrenia research. As I normally do for important decisions, I barraged myself with reasons why I should not, and why it would be a bad idea. -- I'm too old. I'm too busy. I'm too tired. Don't have a degree; don't have ten years. Don't want the debt. Too hard. Not interested enough. -- I did this for about a year. I would try to forget about the idea to test its tenacity. I tend to get excited about a lot of things and lose interest quickly. But, the idea never went a way. I told a few trusted friends, hoping they would talk me down, but they did quite the opposite. For another year, I wrestled with the surreal idea that I was going to completely change course and go to school for the next ten years. Once I realized that I would actually never forgive myself for not doing it, the only real reason being me being a gigantic coward, I accepted the inevitable.
*
Fast forward a bit: Instead of my original plan of going to school in five years, when my youngest was older, I'll be starting classes full time at IU this August (the same day as my oldest 💗) to get a b.s. in psychology, with the intention of going on to a doctorate in psychology and becoming a clinical research psychologist. My two younger ones and I will continue to homeschool.
*
What Does This Have To Do With Photography???
*
Photography has been a part of my life since I was very young. It'll never stop being one of the ways I see the world, in fact, I say it's given me a lot of experience with people that will probably help in my endeavors. I've looked into many eyes through my lens and at my computer and wondered what was behind them.
*
I'll never not be a photographer. But photography as my life's business is no longer a thing. I want it to go back to what it was for me before. An outlet and form of expression, not necessarily for anyone.
*
I won't be taking any more work for the foreseeable future, and may use this time to randomly show personal photography work or share witty memes.*
I want to thank everyone who's supported my business throughout the years. It's been quite a ride and I am so grateful for it. A lot of personal growth has happened as a result of meeting the people I've met and experiences I've had. Friends, family, and especially my husband, who all encouraged and believed in me when I didn't, will always have my gratitude for it.
*
So now a new chapter begins. I had a lot of resistance to writing all that, because it's a big talk and there's always the fear that I won't be able to walk the walk. But, like I said, the lifetime of regret I believe I'd feel for not going for it is scarier to me.
*
I'm not sure if there's any pertinent business info I'm leaving out. Feel free to message me any questions.
*
Wish me luck! Tell me I'm crazy! Pray for me!
*
Thanks again all for all of your support. It means a lot.

Photographer Takes Pics Of People In Public From 2 Perspectives And It Shows How Easily The Media Can Manipulate Reality 06/05/2020

Definitely a trick I can be accused of using when I was with the paper.

Photographer Takes Pics Of People In Public From 2 Perspectives And It Shows How Easily The Media Can Manipulate Reality Photographers Ólafur Steinar Gestsson and Philip Davali photographed the same people on the same day using a wide angle and a telephoto lens. The pics show a difference in the distance between these people and make us doubt the things we take for granted.

How's everyone doing? I know I've gone through waves of "everything is fine" to "what the heck is going on" and "are we actually still doing this?" Is this real life??? Are you with me??? What are you all doing to keep your heads on straight?
I'll let you in on a little secret and tell you one of the things that's taken my mind off of things a bit, but you can't judge me.... For the first time in my 37 years of life, I bought lipstick. And not just one lipstick, but 9 (11 if you count the tinted glosses) over the past few weeks. 😬 Ok, so maybe that makes me one who's head is not on straight, but it's been a fun little experiment in finding colors that work on me. As a photographer, I like to think I've got a pretty keen eye for color, but the logic of lipstick color eludes me. I've never worn any makeup other than the occasional mascara and cherry flavored chapstick, but I've been enjoying myself just a little bit.
So, yeah, what about you?

The 25 Craziest Things Brides and Grooms Have Ever Done | Best Life 18/04/2020

Oh, geez! Some doozies for sure. Number 8 basically was me, because, fun fact, I made a list at our wedding of no-plays for the DJ, which he ignored. On the top of no-play list which he played was MJ and Madonna. Some of you will hate me for that and that's ok. Do any of these sound like something a less awesome version of you would do?

17/04/2020

When I was a little kid, I heard adults talk ALL THE TIME about how quickly time passes. I never understood it, because for me, next month was forever. But I get it now. Time seems to slip through our fingers here and there. Now it's Monday, now it's Friday. Since I realized this and started to think about it, I've been making an effort to SLOW TIME DOWN. There are a ton of blogs and podcasts on the subject, but something I've found to be very true is that to slow time down, you have to slow your self down. Not necessarily physically, because we've all been the victims of letting hours pass by, zoning out in front of our myriad screens, but by slowing our thoughts and rethinking our ideas about how long something should take. Leaving the words "rush" and "hurry" at the door. And instead patiently and nonchalantly say, "take your time". You'd be amazed at how much richer, a simple, normally mundane day can be, by just allowing yourself to actually stop and smell the proverbial roses. Or in the case of mid-April, the proverbial daffoldils.

Do you know how to put on the breaks and slow down time, or are you perpetually slipping into the future???? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Bride Surprises Groom with EnChroma (Colorblind) Glasses! 11/03/2020

This is the sweetest thing. I love how happy his bride is for him. Such a touching moment and it makes me stop and think. It’s so easy to for us to take things for granted. I hope I always remember to keep my sense of wonder and awe in this beautiful world, flawed though it may be.
I hope everyone is enjoying their week and the break in the weather! I’m not waiting for summer! ❤️☺️
