We had the chance to welcome Ameya Chandavarkar (director, FDC) to the Ophthalmology OT when he visited the hospital for a routine eye checkup.
FDC is instrumental in starting the Retina care ( posterior segment ) services at Cooper Hospital by donating its first vitrectomy machine. Last year we were performing 1-2 retina surgeries a month and now we have a waiting list. So many patients have benefitted from this low cost and emergent care. In the photo is also young retina surgeon Dr Sandeep Arora who along with Dr Harsh*t Vaidya are doing wonderful work in that area. This also helps us teach our UG and PG students
Integrated teaching
Dr Sandeep Arora teaching physiology residents about slit lamp examination, indirect ophthalmoscopy, topography, tonometry, etc

Brilliant evening at with the current and past teams at the Cooper Ophthalmology Department..
It’s been a fascinating ride making so many friends along the way many of whom are like family..
Chaat & Dosa counters, Naturals Mango icecream, cupcakes is the perfect dinner combination
It was a good opportunity for the young residents at the beginning of their journey to meet with those who have been there and done that and now tasting success on their own terms ..and for everyone to reminisce on their experiences in a young fledgling department
Many who were out of town, unwell or otherwise unreachable were sorely missed.
Team lunch with faculty and residents
I am proud of my team. And yet as the team expands it’s difficult to know them all well and sometimes communication must be encouraged ..
So we played a game while waiting for dessert! .. everyone had to write something good about their colleagues (and themselves ) anonymously. Everyone read out the sheets which had all the wonderful things the rest of the team wrote about them!
A fun lunch !
Eye checkup camp along at Mookdhwani School Parle east in Assoc with lions club juhu
There were 62 hearing impaired children . Age grp 3. -21 yrs. Dr Namrata Bansode and Optometrist Puru Mengane screened them all with the corporation of their very committed teachers and have invited them for further refraction to Cooper hospital on special days
First ever faculty picnic of a medical college organised by the Dean had all the ingredients for a successful Sunday well spent. Long drive along lush green roads, Antakshari in the bus, snacks and hot meals amidst nature, team building games, adventure activities such as river crossing , commando crossing and Burma bridge. The cherry on the cake was extended rain dance even as rain remained elusive and then the journey back. Even the customary bus breakdown as we reached the city added to our adventure
although we were unhappy about the fact that our operation theatre was shut for a few days due to some repair work and our patients had to wait, we had some great extra PG presentations on basic clinically relevant topics.. time well spent! Always learning
