ABC’s of Oregon
ABC's of Oregon is a children's alphabet book where each letter represents a different place in Oregon.
I has detailed images, witty and informative rhymes, and a glossary to help kids and parents learn more about their amazing state.
If you’re in Hood River you’ve got to hop into Artifacts Books. They’ve got ABC’s of Oregon (H is for Hood River of course) and so much more. The great staff will help you find the perfect book for you!

E is for Eugene and a trip to Eugene isn’t complete without a short hike up to the top of Spencer’s Butte. Our attempt was a reminder that Mother Nature does not guarantee a view at the top. It’s an opportunity to enjoy the journey.🏃🏻♂️🏃🏼♀️ Eugene is a special place for the author and his wife, who met here while completing their undergraduate, thanks to their mutual friend ❤️. If it weren’t for Eugene and our friend, ABC’s of Oregon might not exist! Lastly and most importantly, GO ducks! 🦆💪

G is for Gorge. Columbia River gorge that is! My daughter and I got a lot waterfall hiking in and took in the windy view from Crown Point at the Vista House. An awe inspiring view anytime of year.
Z if for Zigzag! The perfect Oregon ABC finisher. You can probably tell that the ZigZag Inn was the inspiration for the illustration.

A for Astoria! Such a fun place to visit on an especially beautiful day. ☀️😊 Astoria is special, whether you’re into Maritime facts and history, a fan of the movie Goonies, sea life (cormorants, sea lions, sea gulls) and sweeping views of the Columbia River, there’s a bit of something for everyone in this town.
I visited my grandparents Eva and Bob (Oma and Opa❤️) often in Klamath Falls growing up. The view from their wildflower filled front yard is what the K page in the book is based on. I kept this photo by my paints as I created the images for the whole book because seeing their smiling faces makes me feel good. This photo is circa 1990 and you can see a little kindergarten aged Andy in the background with my cousin Michael. Thank you Oma and Opa for being such amazing grandparents and role models and introducing me to the wonders of southern Oregon. 🙏❤️

As you can see, there’s a lot of detail in the artwork. How was it made?
1. Concept sketch 2. Pencil drawing then ink pen over with pencil erased. 3. Watercolors. 4. Your editor wife tells you to make the colors darker. 😂
Can you tell where in Oregon these “pictures” where taken? The first one’s easy but what about the second?
*See link in bio to purchase the book.
