Running the Goggins Challenge: 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours.
On 6th and 7th March 2021 I will be taking part in the David Goggins' 4 x 4 x 48. I will also be rai
It's time for the halfway update.
Twenty-four hours before we start.
If you'd like to help me raise funds for CRPS-UK, here is the Go Fund Me page to do so. Every penny helps.

4 x 4 x 48 - man and dog version, organized by Andy Gibney Last year I completed the 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours covering 48 miles. This yea… Andy Gibney needs your support for 4 x 4 x 48 - man and dog version
In three minutes I explain all about CRPS-UK (the charity I'm running for) and how it won't just be me this year, Sabat the dog is coming too.
It's important to keep the training regime mixed. Last weekend it was 5 x 4 x 20 over two days. Today I'm doing them all in one day. First run was 6am, second 10am, third 2pm, fourth at 6pm and I'll be doing run number five at 10pm.
The wind has relentlessly blown me all over the place, my legs feel good, although I am weary now. All the time my ribs are still sore from the pup tripping me up on Thursday. It's only pain.
We're on again. The 2022 challenge is on 4th to 6th March. The difference this year is I'll be running most of it with my running dog, Sabat. We've been running together for most of the last year so now he's joining me on this. I'll be raising money for CRPS-UK again as well.
Final thoughts.
Mission accomplished.
Three quarters done and the sun shines on the righteous.
One of the unpublished photos! Smashing the challenge and taking a dog's paw to the n**s while smiling. Only one more to go for Sarah and Leigh. Four more to Jenny and me. Those night time sessions were tough.
It's the halfway update.
Quarter of the way through. Here's how it's going.
Three down. A quarter done. Feeling good so far. Third different route to be tackled at 4pm. Anyone seen Goggins?
Run two done and it's still all smiles. It's great running without it being very windy. Today's more of a Weldon day; tomorrow it's Priors Hall's turn.
First photos confirm that getting up at 3am to run 4 miles at 4am contribute towards delirium. I suspect that in 24 hours there will be less smiling.
Current mood. I may not be so jaunty at 4am tomorrow when its -3C. Twenty-hour countdown.

The last training run was done last night. A leisurely 3 miles or so. Little niggles from the legs which I know are actually in my head. Now two lazy days as the countdown approaches 4am on Saturday. Congratulations to Katie Avery, who completed the challenge yesterday. She runs The Lilacs pub in Isham so she'll be working while I'm running.
All that's left is the logistics and I'm pretty much on that already. I had a great response when I posted the fact I'm doing this on the Priors Hall Park and Weldon pages. I'm also getting closer to the sponsorship target so it would be nice to smash the £1000 barrier.
The penultimate run last night. 3 miles, not so easy. Tested the headlamp with a hoodie as it's going to be chilly at the weekend. Nice start to the day too. Official Goggins merchandise has arrived.
This is my teammates and me when we completed the Three Peaks Challenge in 2007. This is at the top of Ben Nevis. I'll be using the lessons I learned on this challenge during the coming weekend. For now, the hard-running is done. I ran 25 miles last week after 48 the week before. Tonight and Wednesday I'll run 3 miles each night to test my head torch and keep my legs loose then it all begins at 4am on Saturday. Thanks for all the support so far.
Here's David Goggins explaining how this is going around the world. There's participants from more than 45 countries around the world taking part.

This photo seems ages ago already. This was a few days after I'd decided to complete this challenge. Now I'm seven days away from the start. This weekend I'll run ten miles today, five miles tomorrow, three miles on Monday and three on Wednesday. It all begins at 4am Saturday 6th March. The weather is looking kind. A high of 8C but with light winds. Prep almost complete. Now it's just counting down.
After 40 years I've found something new and exciting about running.
Lessons from the dress rehearsal
Amazingly he photo bombed me again. Only one to go now. It's been an education.
Four down, two to go. Ran the last leg in a t-shirt in February. Also the fastest run so far. Run number 5 at 8pm. I hope Sarah and Jenny have had good training days. I think Katie is out on Monday. When I'll be walking like an old cowboy.
Two down, four to go. Weather is being kind. Legs reacting well. Next run at 12pm.
