So every night on tour, my little spiel went like this. "I know this is a hip hop show, and I really rap-rap, but is anyone out there familiar Matchbox Twenty?" The crowd erupts. I then proceed to ask for lighters and cellphone lights if they know the song and within seconds the room is lit up. Shoutout to my brother Kyle Cook who’s on my upcoming album and the whole Matchbox Twenty camp for making timeless music that can stand tall in any environment. 3 AM Pre-Show
Tuesday night’s show was challenging but in a good sense. Being that I was performing for a crowd outside of my main genre, I knew it would make for a fun but learning experience. I really think adding the 90s pop/rock covers (Goo Goo Dolls, MB 20, The Clarks) we did provided a bridge of sorts that allowed people to appreciate my originals that had more rapping than singing. It was almost like "Hey, I’m entering your world of music which I also love. Now please enter mine, and be open to it." And people really seemed to embrace that like I was hoping. Looking around at all of the people vibing to my music who were probably not fans of hip hop made it special. I love how that understanding and even bond from music can surface in those moments. With that being said, I’m always open to get on whatever bill with whatever style of artist/band and make that transition of fitting into the landscape.
Had to cover the guys. Can’t wait to see Kyle Cook and Matchbox Twenty on tour this summer and also get some new music from them!…And only the diehards would know that the "I think she’s crazy" added line there is from the VH1 Storytellers version Rob Thomas did many years ago. 🤪🤘🏼

Such a special time period. In retrospect, I sometimes wonder where I could have been had I not taken a 7-8 year hiatus from making music and stuck around creating there and building those relationships. Looking back had I had the maturity and understanding, I would’ve carried bags (lol) or did whatever until I got my opportunity. But, I had to go through those necessary growing pains though that got me right to where I need to be right now so I’m thankful for them. 🙏

Gotta send my usual bday shoutout to the legend. Happy Bday Wiz Khalifa ! Great artist with a grind like no other that I’m lucky to have witnessed firsthand in the beginning stages. But an even better person. I worked with Wiz way back when after he just signed with Universal when so many 🤡s on the local scene were still claiming he wasn’t from here then doubled back around after the success. Lol. I didn’t know him at the time, but he did so many of these drops and cool things for me, letting me know it wasn’t just business. I really appreciated that. Haven’t crossed paths in over a decade since I retired after my first mixtape. 😂. All I have is this old ass cell number. Lmao. But it’s only a matter of time before we link again with all of our mutual friends. I have an unreleased jam with him on my upcoming album that won’t be in the tuck for too much longer. 🤞…Thanks for inspiring us all with the magic that came out of Lawrenceville to set it off.
