Representative Jeff Witte
Proudly serving as the State Representative for District 57B, Lakeville
I had the opportunity to attend the 2024 Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association Violent Crime Summit. Violent crime is at an all-time high in Minnesota. The increased crime rate has many of our communities in fear and departments inundated with increased cases. I was able to listen, learn and understand from our law enforcement leaders within the state and the professionals in areas of violent crime as they discussed current trends and offered solutions to combat this dire situation. Came away with some good information, contacts and solutions so we can lead with focus and purpose to combat violent crimes for our Lakeville community and state of Minnesota! ๐๐จ๐บ๐ธ

Today on Flag Day, we celebrate the American flag, the symbol of the greatest nation on earth. The flag has been a powerful symbol of unity, reminding us of our strength in togetherness. It acts as a unifying force, welcoming all Americans to connect and feel a sense of belonging to something greater than themselves. More than mere fabric, the flag represents our shared identity and the resilient spirit of our nation. ๐บ๐ธ๐

The 2024 legislative session has come to a close, ending my first two years serving as your representative. During the highs and lows, I did my best to never lose sight of what I was sent to St. Paul to do. Throughout our shared victories and the disappointments that come with serving in the legislative minority, I knew that at the end of the day, I fought hard to make sure the priorities of you, your family, and our Lakeville community were heard loud and clear at the legislature.
Thank you so much for your support during this journey. The phone calls, emails, coffee meetings, conversations at the grocery store, and moreโall these interactions helped guide my decision-making these last two years. I hope that Iโve been able to maintain and build on the trust you placed in me to serve you and your family.

Join me today in honoring the brave men and women of law enforcement who have laid down their lives in service of our communities.
During National Police Week, we take time to remember and honor the men and women of law enforcement who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Please be sure to keep them and their families in your prayers this week as we respect, honor, and remember those we have lost.
Happy Mother's Day!
Best of luck to all of our anglers this weekend! Stay safe and have an awesome fishing opener.
Last week, I offered an amendment on the House Floor to increase the criminal penalties for straw purchasers if the firearm is used to assault a peace officer.
Straw purchasing occurs when someone purchases a firearm for another individual who is prohibited from owning fi****ms.
Law enforcement deserves our support and respect 365 days a year, not just when tragedy strikes.
Happy Teachers Appreciation Week to all of the incredible teachers in our community that are doing an amazing job preparing the next generation for a lifetime of success!
Itโs been an incredibly busy week in St. Paul as most of our days have been spent on the House Floor until midnight debating and voting on several omnibus supplemental budget bills. Despite the long hours and late nights, I remain as committed as ever to serving you, your family, and our Lakeville community in the legislature.
I appreciate all your support, your messages of encouragement, and the questions, comments, and concerns you have shared with me.

The legislature returned to St. Paul on Wednesday afternoon following a brief two-day break for the Passover Holiday. With less than a month to go until final adjournment, I expect many of the large omnibus budget bills to make their way to the House Floor beginning next week and plan to share more details then.
In the meantime, I wanted to share with you my Law Enforcement 365 initiative I have developed with others to help bolster the amazing work public safety professionals do in our communities.

Monday was Tax Day and an unfortunate reminder of the nearly $10 billion in new taxes that all Minnesotans will be paying thanks to the spending spree that we saw last year from the majority in the House and Senate.
