Itās been an absolutely crazy few weeks. Work has been insanely hectic, as I start to wrap up the academic year. Iāve been trying to slowly tick off a long list of things that have piled up over the past few months. One of the key things on my list was to figure out my summer plans.
Believe it or not, I still have no idea what Iām doing for the summer. One moment Iām like Iām going to London (UK) via somewhere in Europe, the next moment Iām heading to Atlanta (US), the next moment Iām like Iām going to Karachi (Pakistan). Itās boiling hot in Dubai & Iād rather get a break from this city. I have no clue where Iām going for summer. Iād love to know what the rest of you are thinking of doing.
Even though Dubai is an amazing city and thereās sooooo much to do here. For now Iād rather get a break from the heat while I have a month off. So the question is where should I sail/fly off to?
This is my first post after almost 2 months of a social media semi-detox. While I did not deactivate my account, I turned my notifications off and stopped posting. It really made me realise how social media distracts you from the world and prevents you from sitting with yourself.
Back in March I had so many exciting things lined up to share with you all including Jessās interview, photoshoot and a collaboration with a company that produces hearing aids. The semi-detox was mainly caused due to a lot of things piling up on stress, followed by Ramadan & Eid. To top it off I injured my back and itās when it starts impacting the body that we decide to take action. I tried to make a comeback right after Eid, but I was deeply disheartened by everything happening in Palestine. Iāve been lucky enough to visit Jerusalem and experienced how magical that holy land is. I really just couldnāt believe what was happening and felt so helpless. My prayers have been with Palestine this whole time.
During my social media semi-detox I was reminded of the reason I started this page. I was also reminded that I made a promise there would never be another young Areej going through some of the struggles I did. I remember how motivating those words sounded at the time. And then I realized, itās all about timing and no one comes first but you. I needed to put myself first. āIf youāre not there for yourself today, how can you be there for someone tomorrow.ā
It wasnāt just the promise I made a year ago which triggered me into finally coming back. It was the faith I had in myself of what I could accomplish despite all the fear. If we can see in ourselves the small miracles others see in us, what might be possible? So often it is lack of courage that holds us back from taking the risk, that keeps us stuck in the comfort zone, stuck in complacency, stuck thinking now itās the time.Youāll never know unless you take the leap of faith!
Here I am taking mine and hoping to land between the starsā¦ āØ
We are bilingual. We speak the language of indoctrination, but our mother tongue is the language of imagination. When we use the language of indoctrination with its āgood and badā, āright and wrongā, āshould and shouldnātā - we are activating our minds. Thatās not what weāre going for here. Because our minds are polluted with our past programming. In order to go beyond our past programming, we need to captivate our imaginations. Our minds are excuse makers; our imaginations are storytellers. So instead of asking ourselves whatās right and wrong, we must ask ourselves:
What is true and beautiful?
Then our imagination rises inside us, thanks us for finally consulting it after all these years, and tells us a story.... the lights are on you, now whatās your story?
Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes, in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself. āš¼ @ Onedegree.ae
A strong woman is one who feels deeply and loves fiercely. Her tears flow as abundantly as her laughter. A strong woman is both soft and powerful, she is both practical and spiritual. A strong woman loves, forgives, walks away, lets go, tries again, and persevere. No matter what life throws at her. Thereās nothing like a woman whoās been broken & knocked down, she always comes back stronger! Happy womanās day š @ Cove Beach Dubai

In most societies deafness is associated with the word ādumbā, especially profound deafness. Just because someone doesnāt speak, it doesnāt mean they canāt & it certainly doesnāt mean theyāre dumb. Lately Iāve been noticing how common it is for people to be underestimated due to having a hearing loss. This often leads to the individual having to work extra hard to prove the society wrong. People with a hearing loss may not hear things, but they see and feel things that others donāt. Our other senses are far stronger & our hearing loss is a super power. Whatās your super power?š„
No matter what always keep reminding yourself that āyouāre a badassā š

Do you notice something new on my ear? I got the tragus piercing. Since I was a teenager I always wanted to get it done but, because I used to wear hearing aids at the time in both ears I couldnāt. Now that I have a cochlear implant in on the left ear & thereās no ear moulds involved. This weekend I finally gathered the courage to head to and get it done. I feel like it really completes the whole look to my cochlear implant design š
Iāve been so blessed to call Dubai home since August 2019. For those of you who donāt know, Iāve lived in Rainy London all my life. It was always a dream of mine to experience living in another country & Dubai always seemed to be a good option. It was mainly the sunshine that attracted me to moving here and I canāt stress enough what an impact weather makes on everything. Plus I never thought Iād say this but Iāve kind of been missing the rain a little lately. I donāt plan to spend the rest of my life in Dubai, although since Covid Iāve kind of stopped making any life plans. Just live in the moment, wait to see the next chapters of life unfold and see where they lead to... if you know me, you know how spontaneous I can be! @ Dubai Creek Harbour
If you want to achieve your goal or simply just see the sunshine, you have to weather the storm. The more storms you weather, the more sunshine you bring into the lives of others and that sunshine always finds its way back to you. What does this sunshine mean for you? š
Finally after a long wait Episode 1 of Hear Areej will be launching on YouTube & www.hearareej.com tomorrow. Hereās a little teaser from my conversation with Qais.
Perspective can either make your problems look bigger or your possibilities look infinite ā¾
A wise person once said āno matter what life throws at you - what you make out of it is up to you.ā Here I am stepping out there not seeking to be in the spotlight but seeking for a spot to light - to help & inspire. I know all the struggles Iāve been through & growing up I had no one who could relate to them. I donāt want the future generations to have to experience the same. Itās time for a change! š« @ Camden Town
A lot of you messaged me asking for a close up of the design of my cochlear implant, so I decided to put this video together. I even added a voice recording of one of my own poems in the background called & the background music is November from . How perfectly did it all just seem to sync together. Iāve been using the little spare time I have to experiment with content. I would love to hear what you all think of this little clip š š PC: ABC Media Production
Anyone who knows me knows how extra, carried away and OTT I can get only āsometimesā with organising and planning. So let me walk you down the idea behind this look as I kinda put a lot of effort into it. š¤·š»āāļø
To start with I went for a fusion look by adding bits and bobs that represent me. This poncho style kameez has been sitting around in my wardrobe for two years and Iām so glad I finally got the opportunity to wear it. This kameez was designed by my mother in Karachi (the city my family is from in Pakistan), the fabric was from Dubai (where I currently reside) and the leather leggings are from Topshop in London (the city I was born and brought up in). šµš° š¬š§ š¦šŖ
Now let's talk about whatās going on around my ear. Not sure if you noticed but the use of colours was inspired by a peacock, Iāve always adored peacocks! Think of it this way - the jumka earring on my ear is the main body of a peacock and then behind my ear you start to notice the colours of the peacock feather. See the different gemstone shades of green, blue and I added on pearls. All the focus was going on my ear and the magnetic part on my head of my cochlear implant was feeling kinda left out, so I added the sahara (silver chain) and it easily stayed attached to the magnet as its metal. š¦
Finally, Iāve owned the heels Iām wearing for more than 10 years and they are so freakin comfortable from š
I would love to hear what you guys think. Would you like to see more design ideas and find out how I design them? š PC:ABC Media Production

Iām so excited to introduce you all to the Hear Areej Video-cast which will be launching on Friday 12th February. We all know how podcasts have been all hyped lately, but thereās a real accessibility issue with them. It can be a struggle for people with a hearing loss to access this information due to needing more visual cues. Iāve created this video-cast not only for the hearing loss world, but also to provide the hearing world an insight into peopleās stories from a different perspective. To keep up to date head over to www.hearareej.com - watch this space!
Since accessibility is so key š weāve collaborated with to ensure Pakistan Sign Language interpretation & captions are provided.
Iād also like to take a moment to thank the amazing graphics designer for creating this artwork š

Since Iāve been asked for more outfit inspiration on this page Iāve just had soooo many ideas popping through my head & I clearly havenāt been able to hold myself back. Do you feel the whole elegant and classy vibe? Letās just call it Princess Areej chilling at her Castle. With the whole shoe lace typing pose it kind of remind me on Cinderella, but if I was to be any Disney princess it would be sleeping beauty for sure! I love my sleep too much as soon as my comes off I instantly start to wind down and relax because itās so peaceful! @ Al Seef Dubai
