Root Awakening

Root Awakening is a festival for parents and educators to learn about garden plants. It will be held

03/03/2020

Thank you for coming to Root Awakening! I'm back to my main vocation with my company, Garden Colorscapes, but still reflecting on Root Awakening. I hope you learned many ideas for spreading the joy of ornamental gardening with the children in your lives. I would like to thank the local green community in Oglethorpe, Oconee and Clarke counties who contributed with plant donations, especially Wolfskin Growers and Goodness Grows, the many volunteers, and the 3 speakers. Thank you "rooters" for coming and for your enthusiastic support. Keep Gardening, Liz Curtis, founder of Root Awakening and proprietor of Garden Colorscapes. http://gardencolorscapes.com/

Our second speaker of the day is the inspirational Brie Arthur. You'll go home ready to get your hands dirty that very day; she'll inspire you so much that you'll be eager to get to work outside with the kids in your life! She practices what she preaches and has the neighborhood kids working alongside her. She also volunteers and heads up school gardens in her area. Come listen and learn!

We've had a few questions about kids activities, so we're sharing with you how this is turning out.

While Root Awakening is geared towards adults and there are no activities planned for kids, we're having parents and grandparents sign up for themselves and their kids.

This is our first Root Awakening event and we've learned there are folks who want their kids to get the opportunity to listen to these speakers too. Well, that's just great! Dr. Armitage, Brie Arthur, and Dr. Dirr are some of the best horticulturists around and they don't often speak in this area. This is a unique opportunity and we welcome any youngster who's interested and mature enough to get something out of it. And they will!

I know a college kid that's going, a mature high schooler who is coming that will benefit from it as much as any adult, and a grandmother is bringing her grandkids because she has them garden with her and she wants them to hear these speakers.

We hope this clears up some of the confusion, while we learn what is important to our attendees. The purpose of Root Awakening is to enable parents in gardening activities with their children, and it seems to be that kids listening to these speakers is an important part of that.

We look forward to seeing everybody on February 29th!
