With everything going on in this world, I feel it 💔 I don't want it to consume me. I want to honor my grief and also do something that connects me.

💐Indigenous Postpartum care💐

Indigenous postpartum care is wrapping a postpartum womb in love.

It's supporting the birthing/postpartum person so they can rest + heal.

It's providing nourishing teas, meals, and gentleness in this most sacred time.

It's creating magic with our hands. Holding space for all the emotions.

It's meditating + praying while cooking for a postpartum body.

It's honoring the transformation that a womb has experienced.

This and so much more is a part of my postpartum support.

Today another abinoojiiyens has come earthside 💖 and I have the honor of caring for the womb that was once home to this precious little being.

I've taken a break from posting here for some time because I needed it! I will be sharing an updated schedule and offerings very soon! So stay tuned 💃🏾!

I'm sharing this article that I was asked to be a part of about racial discrimination, because IT IS YOGA!!! Yoga is a way of life, just as our Indigenous practices are a way of life, social justice and anti-racism are yoga.

Racial discrimination causes harm to many. One of the first things we learn in the practice of yoga, is to not cause someone else or something else harm and to have deep respect for all that is (i.e. energy, time, people, self, plants, animals, the environment). In our Indigenous stories and values, there are many teachings about how we can do that and the consequences that happen when we don't.

So if you gain anything from this post, I hope that you walk away thinking more openly about Yoga. It's more than getting a yoga mat and doing poses and breathwork. It's about how we treat each other ourselves, the world around us and within us. It's about how much we live and make decisions that align with our values. It's about connecting with our spirit, nurturing it, and learning to ground ourselves no matter what happens in our life. Being Indigenous is a way of life. Yoga, is a way of life.

UPDATE
I was hoping that we would be moved into our home by now + I would have a new space to share with you. That's not what the universe said 😅!

I'm taking a note out of Happy's book and RESTING! Changes are coming. Since I'm still in between homes and need to take time for me this month, I will NOT be teaching live classes this month. You can, however, see some

I didn't get to post this or promo it because I caught a little bug and was in no condition to be on my phone. And in the midst of it, I was moving 🥵 10/10 would recommend taking more than a few days off to move.

I'm finally feeling better and still wanted to share this. The recording can be found on the American Indian Cancer Foundation FB page if you want to check it out. It was such a wonderful experience working with Jeff on this. He's a brilliant, gentle soul.

It's been so amazing to build a relationship with over the past several months. Thank you for the work you do for our people.

We will spend time practicing svadhyaya, self-study and making time for meaningful reflections on behaviors, memories, and the future.

I am in between houses right now because- we are moving. We are in the process of buying our first ever house!! This means SO much to our little family because:

1. We will be closer to family
2. Back to living in the bush
3. More access to cultural activities

Plus having our own space means more privacy when I'm holding space for you! So until we get settled in, the vinyasa classes will be on pause + come back with a fierce ness 🦄 😅

🌬 Activating your central nervous system with your breath has healing powers 🌬⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Placing a hand over your heart, the other over your belly, also activates your central nervous system- the parasympathetic response. It invites calming and awareness. It helps with being present and slowing down thoughts. It increases oxytocin, the hormone associated with touch and releasing endorphins.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Too often we are not activating the parasympathetic nervous system in our minds or bodies. When we give space for breathwork + movement, we strengthen the central nervous system and parasympathetic response.⠀⠀⠀⠀

🌱Connection can be simple 🍃

Here are my 3 go-to's to connect + reset my nervous system. Especially when I'm stressed out or overwhelmed and can't think, going outside always renews my energy + spirit. Even for a few minutes!

🌿 Thank pejuta oyate- the plant/medicine nation. They provide so much + are incredibly generous. Get to know them.

Note: always harvest in a good way and put your asemaa/offering out. Bonus: can you name the plant relative here?!

🌳 Listen to mitig- tree. The trees are so wise and loving. Listen to them and the stories they have. They deserve our attention and respect.

🍃Touch unci maka- mother earth. One of the easiest ways to recalibrate + refresh your energy and spirit, is to do this with your hands. And if you're lucky to have a fluffy white 4 legged around, show 'em some love, too🦄

Speaking love + compassion to yourself is a way to practice Indigenous love. When we love ourselves, it can fill up our sacred vessels to the point that we share our love abundantly. And believe me, your love carries the medicine + healing your people need. Your love runs from the generations before- to the beginning of time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Try this affirmation today. I am my ancestors' prayer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This week we're focusing on the energy we carry in our bodies. The energy could be good, loving, or fulfilling. It can be heavy + feel like it's weighing you down. But sometimes that energy is stale and needs to just get out!

Each flow these week will feature movements that allow energy to move more freely through your body. So the stale energy can leave and make room for new energy to ground you + make you FEEL good and rejuvenated!

I thought I'd introduce myself since I've got some recent follows & y'all are probs like who is this? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My name is Pearl. I'm from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and White Earth Nation. I grew up mostly in Bemijigamaag aka Bemidji. I'm a full spectrum doula and lactation counselor + work for a nonprofit + a yoga teacher. I'm a 🦀 sun and I keep it crabby lolol! But connecting with people is a gift and something that fills my cup. I did my YTT with THE BEST 612 Jungle in 2020 🔥!!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yoga came to me in my postpartum time. I was overwhelmed, having so many bodily reactions to the visions of children being separated from their parents being sent away + the colonized systems that still exist today- it cut me deep. It was a tender, hard place to be. I wanted to just feel good about the present + future- even if it was for a short time. So I finally gave yoga a try. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
AND I CRIED IN SAVASANA, the final pose. I felt, grounded and clear. Like I had just gotten done with inipi. I was surprised. That's when I knew I needed to add movement + stillness to my daily routine. I'm so grateful to this practice + to have found at an even more stressful time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's given me so much space to grow, connect, and heal in addition to cultural practices I already do. The benefits of even meditating for 10 mins in the morning works wonders on how I connect with myself + others the rest of the day. AND today marks 1 year since my very first day in YTT with 40+ complete strangers who are now in the 612YTT fam 🙌🏾!!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
