The children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited: they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan." For forty years they were daily reminded by this miraculous provision, of God's unfailing care and tender love. In the words of the psalmist, God gave them "of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angels' food" (Psalm 78:24, 25) - that is, food provided for them by the angels. Sustained by "the corn of heaven," they were daily taught that, having God's promise, they were as secure from want as if surrounded by fields of waving grain on the fertile plains of Canaan. It would be well to *spend a thoughtful hour each day* *reviewing the life of Christ from the manger to Calvary* . We should take it point by point and let the imagination vividly grasp each scene, especially the closing ones of His earthly life. Mar 77.5

In Him are no disappointed hopes.

*Genuine faith* is followed by *love* , and *love by obedience* . All the powers and passions of the converted man are brought under the control of Christ. His Spirit is a renewing power, transforming to the divine image all who will receive it Mar 73.5

The plan for our redemption was not an afterthought, a plan formulated after the fall of Adam. It was a revelation of ‘the mystery which hath been kept in silence through times eternal.’ Romans 16:25, R. V. . . . It was an unfolding of the principles that from eternal ages have been the foundation of God’s throne. From the beginning, God and Christ knew of the apostasy of Satan, and of the fall of man through the deceptive power of the apostate. God did not ordain that sin should exist, but He foresaw its existence, and made provision to meet the terrible emergency.

Lam 3:40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.

3 Put not *your trust* in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

We are *not to trust in princes* , or to *set men in the place of God* . We are to remember that human beings are *fallible and erring* , and that He who has all power is our strong tower of defense. In every *emergency we are to feel that the battle is His* . His resources are limitless, and apparent impossibilities will make the victory all the greater.{PK 202}

We should *consult His Word* with *humble hearts* , ask His counsel, and *give up our will to His* . We can do nothing without God. Mar 28.4

The greatest want of the world is the want of men—men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.
But such a character is not the result of accident; it is not due to special favors or endowments of Providence. A noble character is the result of self-discipline, of the subjection of the lower to the higher nature—the surrender of self for the service of love to God and man.
