That is because ideas are the most valuable assets that can give rise to several deals to come.

Do not suspend the arrival of fresh ideas to “next time or I am busy.”

A writer's toolkit refers to tools that power specific ideas or points a writer intends to pass on.

The purpose of every tool used by a workman is for different purposes.

In the same vein is a writers' tool.

Also, the writers' toolkit is into three divisions: physical, technical, and literally tools.

The physical toolbox includes a writing materials-pen, a book, a notepad, a laptop, etc.

The Technical tools are Grammarly, Evernote, MS word, Google docs, Cliche finder, Hemingway, etc.

Note: these technical tools are lots more, but they are not limited to writing alone.

Some cover proofreading and editing, drafting, etc.

The Literally tools include the proper usage of grammar, punctuation, capitalization rules; figurative language; rhyme, and vocabulary.

Dive into your writings with the right tools to launch your ideas right.

Get familiar with tools like punctuations, capitalization, and grammar before starting.

At first, it is okay to be a diversified writer; but sometimes, It is never considered to be professional.

It is always better and easier to be a master of one than a ''knower'' of all.

I will advise you to channel your strength on writing what you know you so well and can be comfortable writing on at your initial stage before focusing on the niche to venture in.

Then, You can transit from writing beyond what you want; to write what a particular audience wants.
But, Ensure you transit as fast as possible.

For instance, you decide to go into writing content for business to business (B2B content writing), you find out it is becoming difficult.

At this point, it is either you keep studying about that niche and expanding your knowledge around it, or you can diversify into multiple niches.

I have sat under great writers in seminars and boot camps; I observed they always start with the same statement “I’ve always loved writing right when I was younger.
Then, they will begin to tell a series of steps taken to arrive at the position writing has placed them in life.

Guess what?

None of them disagreed that the style and pattern of writing they got as a child was not what gave them the platform they enjoy now.

Then I have to agree with the study that suggested that writing is 3% talent and 97% intentionality.

STEPS IN SETTING UP A WRITER'S NOTEBOOK.

Choosing a notebook that can accommodate your bank of ideas each time you decide to create a writer's notebook is what writers should know.

Mostly in some professional niches of your writing ideas.

If it needs to be a large notebook, by all means, use it.

The steps involve in setting up a more explicit notebook for writer's includes:

1. Customize your Writer’s Notebook in such a way that reflects your personality.
Let it reflect you and what you represent.

2. Number the pages of your notebook for easy access to strategic ideas.

3. Title your ideas and inspirations with dates for easy access.

4. Avoid unnecessary and rough cancellations.
A single-line cross is okay for mistakes.

5. .Be on the lookout for your notebook.
Handle it with care and be sure it is safe and intact.

6. A constant habit of reading your writer’s notebook will help keep your ideas in your fingertip.

WRITER'S NOTEBOOK.

𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗧𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸

1. Own Your work.
I sit close to people in churches and events and some of them would practically refuse to jot down anything.

When queried will give you excuses like-My handwriting is not fine, I cannot spell well, I can’t do this nor that.

Shey it is your book ni? Would anyone arrest you for doing your own thing?

I tell people to Own their spaces, including their writing space.
Write what you know, Draw your ideas if needed, and place them in ways you can see and understand.

Gradually you will see yourself rising above those errors.
Just do not give in to blank spaces.

2. Keep your notebook pocket-friendly.
Your notebook should be in a size that does not limit you from moving about with it.
Refuse the urge for a ''higher ground” long note.

You must go about with it but go for one that should be friendly to your handbag or pocket when the need be.

3. If it isn’t messy, you are not getting it right.
Do not bother about your "bad" writing, so you see it; just keep jotting.
Keep it flowing until it stops.

I have this blue notebook where I jot in random thoughts then I really cannot assure you of straight reading.

Some content in there is not written straight at all but they are well understood by me.

By being messy, I do not mean disorganized or dirty, I mean you being are rightly positioned to grab every of your ideas in a document form

So, If it isn’t messy, you are not getting it right.

4. Have different Notebooks for different ideas.
Some of us don’t fancy the ‘’jerk” of some persons who tries to mess around our journals in search of what to read or snitched on.

We find out offensive that they might end up exposed to thoughts and ideas that was recently perceived which may not be good for another eye.

Especially some of us who are pen gossips like I can beImagine someone having to read all both constructive criticism and small small “blasting” I write about stuffs and people and start viewing it the wrong way.

So, there should book for emotions, all the love gen gen, book for smart goals, plans, achievement, KPI, you-time etc.

In all, Separate what should be in your notebook. Some for ideas, random thoughts or some strictly "heartcode".

For the perfectionist, I recommend you have other notebooks to transfer some of these “messy” content in a neater and arranged manner.

In our previous post, we established that A writer’s notebook helps you to record your ideas and unlock your creativity, also to keep reminding you that you are a writer and Writers’ write.
Today we shall be looking at 3 tips to consider before Writing on Your notebook as a writer.

Many writers see having a notebook as a show off or as something very discomforting.

But As a writer, Do you know that your notebook is also one of your assets.
Oh yes! You heard me right.

Ever bumped into some of your old love letters and letter writing practices? How did you feel reading them?

How did the person you both found it with felt reading all of that?

Now imagined the number of people reading it alongside with you; feeling the same joy and laughter, some the lessons you wrote in there.

So, your notebook is not just your trashy-messy paper, but an ASSEST for generations untold to benefit from.

Keeping a notebook may be the single best way to survive as a writer. It encourages a greater sensitivity to your world, inside and out. - Ralph Fletcher

On my birthday, Tam, a very close friend bought a fine, well-sectioned notebook for me as a birthday gift; I must say that was the most valuable gift I considered receiving that day.

And guess what? I turned that notebook into what I titled Life’s Haven.

In there lies all the most intriguing and amazing happenings as I journeyed through life and the significance I derived from every bit of it. Of course, I do not bring it out for the next other to see.

Following the footsteps of my boss who had mentioned having what he titled a book of gratitude, I also have a page dedicated to writing all the things I am most grateful for and all of my goals, ideas, and principles.

Therefore, When I talk about a writer's notebook; I am refering to a record of impressions, observations, and ideas written down in a notebook that may eventually serve as the basis for more formal or informal writings, such as essays, articles, stories, or poems.

It is otherwise called a writer's diary or journal.
In his book How Writers Work, Fletcher says “I think of my notebook as a net with holes so tiny that no idea can slip through.”

Woh! You read that? "Holes so tiny that no idea slips through"!

And here we are always complaining of lagging ideas of what to post, or write about?

May I please ask you about the last idea that dropped on you when you were bathing? Or is the one that came while "sh****ng"?

Common guys, Ideas are like running waters, the level at which it is retrieved is exactly the amount that it is going to be used.
Stop seeing jotting down ideas especially in a notebook as archaic rather, picture it as your “Idea Haven’’.

Part of what we teach here is the emphasis on the proper usage of words in a context or an idea.
Do not be quick to use a word, especially new words you just searched out from the dictionary.

Go further by checking its best synonyms and meanings.
Also, check the different contexts at which these words are being used and the sentences made with them.
Example the words: Lout and Tout.
Lout simply means an uncouth, rough, and aggressive man or boy.
Best synonyms are hooligan, ruffian, hoodlum, rowdy, yob, etc.

Tout: To brag or flaunt.
Best synonyms are praise, hail, hype, cheer, etc.
In another context, tout means a person resells tickets for some personal profits.

Although it is claimed that the word tout has a negative connotation.

Looking at the above explanations, does that justify our Nigerian way of referring to the ‘’agberos’’ and street pocket pickers as touts?

So which of these words fits best, is it, Tout or Lout?

Dear Writer,

The mindset that jotting down all that hovers around your head is difficult and back-breaking is the kind that should be discarded.

If you find it burdensome to pen your ideas and thoughts into readable content, the solution therefore, lies in the words of Neil Gaiman; A british writer and author of the popular comic series-The sandman.

I quote “ This is how you do it. You sit down at a keyboard, and put down one word after another until it is done. It is that easy and that hard.’’

Advisably, Practice this tip daily and you will be amazed how rich your draft will become.

TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS FOR WRITERS

1. Use To-Do Lists
list out the areas you wish to write about and stay within its borders. This method helps you stay on track as sometimes we cannot remember all that there is to write at a particular time, then; Do not try to write everything all at once.
Begin your writing plan using the four quadrants of time management, from urgent and important down to the less important and not urgent task.

2. Set a Schedule
Set specific dates and times for your
writing to avoid writing under pressure and duress.


3. Use a Timer
Set every of your writing session under a time watch.
Decide to give 5-10mins time bound for every session, depending on the areas you are writing on; Take a few minutes for a break before starting to write again.

4. Have Your writing set ready.
Even if it is just your laptop, pens, and paper, ensure they are readily available at your corner before starting to write.

5. Cut Off Distractions
shut down everything that is not your writing tool, all tabs, programs, and especially beeps from social media notifications, and just write; This can be quite tempting though.

Commitment on your journey to becoming a better writer is very vital as nothing worthwhile ever comes easy.
