Well, I started to write my second clean Regency romance book. I was talked into trying to write it in 1st person. 🤔, my first was in 3rd. I am about 10,000 words into it but have since learned that romance novels are better received in 3rd person so you can better see both view points.
Here are the first few paragraphs in rough draft form and in first person.

I stood outside the door and listened.
"I will not marry her! I do not even know the lady. Nobody really does. What if she is cruel or smiles constantly showing large prominent front teeth? Perhaps she talks nonstop or has ghastly moles all over her face. Do we know anything about the lady?"
I listened in dismay. Were they speaking about me? I could hear the aged butler try to clear his throat and get their attention but it was to no avail. The tall wooden door, which had been left slightly ajar, closed completely but I could still hear them.
