We are revealing another missing piece, the second committee that is going to be simulated: International Organization on Migration (IOM), with its respective topic “Refuge Cities: Local Strategies for In-Country and Cross-Country Migration”.

🧩UNAA has now revealed its missing piece of the puzzle and we’re excited to announce the open call for delegates and journalists for MUN Albania 2022!

📑 On October 26-30th, your favorite non-formal educational emulation is taking place, including the simulation of three committees, interconnectivity, crisis simulation, press corps and expects at least 80 attendants, both national and international.

📍This edition’s conference’s topic which the delegates will try to tackle is:

“Humanity on the move - Freedom of movement and right of asylum”

🏷While freedom of movement is recognized as a fundamental human right, the international legal framework doesn’t capture the full complexity of the right to move.

Movement of people sheds light on an uncomfortable but obvious truth: that we don’t choose where to be born, and that those who are born with shelter and socioeconomic opportunities did nothing to deserve it. As it is deeply connected to recognizing the equal dignity of all human lives, the management of migration is intrinsically political.

🔍During the conference we will simulate 3 Committees, namely, with their respective topics, which will address issues regarding movement of people as follows:

📑 Në datat 26-30 tetor, do të zhvillohet emulimi juaj i preferuar edukues joformal, duke përfshirë simulimin e tre komiteteve, njohjet, simulimin e krizave, grupin e shtypit dhe pret të paktën 80 pjesëmarrës, kombëtarë dhe ndërkombëtarë.

📍Tema e konferencës së këtij edicioni, të cilën delegatët do të trajtojnë është:

🏷“NJERËZIMI NË LËVIZJE: Liria e Lëvizjes dhe e Drejta e Azilit”. Edhe pse liria e lëvizjes njihet si një e drejtë themelore e njeriut, kuadri ligjor ndërkombëtar nuk e trajton kompleksitetin e plotë të së drejtës për të lëvizur.

Lëvizja e njerëzve hedh dritë mbi një të vërtetë të pakëndshme, por të dukshme: që ne nuk zgjedhim se ku të lindim dhe se ata që lindin me strehim dhe mundësi socio-ekonomike nuk kanë bërë asgjë për ta merituar atë. Meqenëse është thellësisht i lidhur me njohjen e dinjitetit të barabartë të të gjitha jetëve njerëzore, menaxhimi i migracionit është në thelb politik.

🔹Gjatë konferencës do të simulojmë 3 komitete, përkatësisht, me temat e tyre përkatëse, të cilat do të trajtojnë çështjet në lidhje me lëvizjen e njerëzve si më poshtë:

Day 4: Before the curtain fall!

🔹Four days of an educational simulation, one final resolution passed, and plenty of diplomatic debate culminated with the Closing Ceremony, taking place at the City Council of Tirana, this past Sunday morning.

🏷In the closing ceremony, moderated by Linda Kelmendi, President of the youth chapter, we were joined by Ms. Anuela Ristani, Deputy Mayor of Tirana, and Mr. Kristi Çina, President of UNA Albania, alongside Conference Assistant, Mr. Enes Shehu. Ms. Ristani touched upon the importance of educational activities such as MUNs, while Mr. Çina described the challenges of organizing this year’s edition. Many thanks were in order, issued by the Conference Assistant to the supporters of the event, participants and Secretariat, as well as the Organizing Team, especially the restless, hard-working Conference Manager, Deborah Lika.

🔸Secretary General, Luca Tesei Li Bassi, and Under-Secretary General, Silvana Rusi, shared their final remarks, emphasizing youth involvement in global matters.

🏅Following the speeches, the Chairs announced the awards for Best Delegate & Honorable Mention. On a more humorous note, the Editor in Chief, announced the winners for the Funny Awards.

✨Once again, we would like to thank participants and members of the Secreteriat, for taking the journey to with us! A special thank you goes to UN Albania, for fully supporting this conference. Last but not least, we want to congratulate the organizing team of MUN Albania 2021, without whom this conference would simply have not have been.

Day 3: The Grand Event!

🚀 Saturday morning, the spaceship to landed on a new destination, the City Council of Tirana.

🔗Following two days of Committee Sessions, and at the risk of Nuclear Weapons, the delegates from UNSC and WHO were brought together in the General Assembly of MUN Albania 2021.

🎯Convened by the Secretary-General, the purpose of this event was to add momentum to the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (WPS), and to address with more urgency and commitment the interlinkage between gender, health, and security.

🏷Throughout the sessions, a dynamic debate transpired, where delegations took the floor to express their stance on human rights, gender equality, and most importantly peace and security.

📜But, what was the highlight of the day? The General Assembly successfully passed a final resolution addressing the issue!

💃To celebrate the successful conclusion of this journey, a Diplomatic Soirée was organized by the Socials Team at Rogner Hotel Tirana. Stay tuned to get a glimpse of how it went!

🖊Day 2: Diving into the Debate and Resolution Writing!

⚡️Friday, Day Two of Committee Sessions had an unconventional start. The restless Press team presented a Crisis to the WHO Committee. Japan was facing a danger to health - nuclear weaponry in the area was causing infertility to women. Debate ignited rapidly while countries stated their position in regards to this concern.

📝As the day progressed, both committees worked on drafting resolutions. UNSC adapted two draft resolutions, while only one passed at the end of the day. Meanwhile, at the WHO Committee one was adapted, and it passed after taking the majority of votings in favor from the present states.

📌Last on the agenda: the Press Conference. Representatives of the press were able to ask delegations on the voted resolutions.

💫Day 1: Let the real MUN Experience begin!

🍀Early Thursday morning marked the kicking off of the Committee Sessions. Delegates and Press Team, divided into the two simulated Committees, UN Security Council (UNSC) and World Health Organization (WHO), started the diplomatic journey upon the topic of “Access to Health”. Each committee guided by the respective pair of Chairs, had their own subtopics to explore.

🎯At the UNSC chamber, things got heated instantly, having as the main topic of discussion “Health and Security”, and most specifically, nuclear weapons and the risk they place upon security and peace. On the other half, WHO, who as the leading topic has “Health and Gender”, was quick to jump upon women & LGBTQ+ rights, stigma and stereotypes.

🔅With such interesting and captivating topics, we cannot help but wonder how the debate will evolve during the next days.

🪐Day 0: The gates of are officially open!

📍Following a pandemic-caused, two-year gap, MUN Albania 2021 “Access to Health”, commenced yesterday at the premises of The Ivanaj Foundations. Delegates started socializing early in the morning, in the planned Tirana Tour, navigating through historic places and famous destinations of the capital. Later in the afternoon, Luca Tesei Li Bassi, the Secretary-General, led the workshop on the Rules of Procedure, addressing participants' questions and a Roundtable discussion on Gender Equality, joined by Albanian Youth Delegates, Ania Sauku and Diogjen Kolici, and Alba Brojka, WB Regional consultant at EED.

💥Marking the day's highlight, the Opening Ceremony brought together friends and supporters of the MUN Initiative and UN Association Albania, precisely:
Ms. Fiona McCluney, UN Resident Coordinator;
Mr. Gazmend Turdiu, Director of the directory for the Security Council at MEFA;
Dr. Besmira Lahi, Representative of UNYT;
Luca Tesei Li Bassi, Secretary-General;
Deborah Lika, Conference Manager;

🔸Moderated by the President of UNAA’s youth chapter, Linda Kelmendi, the opening ceremony brought forward talks on the importance of Model UN as a non-formal education platform and for exercising the values of the United Nations; on Albania's priorities to the UNSC, the UN organ which is also being simulated in this edition; for how MUNs are a space where youth believe in their voice and meaningfully exercise it.

✒️ Gladiola holds a Bachelor's of Law degree from Luarasi University and is particularly focused on EU and International law. Her academic background varies from law to psychology, social care and the intersection of these disciplines. Her first introduction with MUNs was in 2019 as a participant in Simulation Game Albania.

🎯 In addition, throughout her studies Gladiola has participated in moot courts and trainings focused on human rights issues on a national and international level. As an active member of UN Youth Association Albania, she has conceptualized, coordinated and implemented various activities
targeting youth issues and global challenges with a focal point on local communities. Currently, Gladiola is part of the FutureGov Fellows 2021 at the Center for Policy Innovation.

☀️Starting this Tuesday the right way with with our next person in line, who comes in as a plot-twist in our presentation series of Chairs and members of the organizing team. Ivana Širinić holds the unique role of Editor in Chief for MUN Albania 2021. Now you might be wondering what a MUN Conference is like without the spice and intrigues added by the Crisis team? Thanks to Ivana and the team she will be guiding, we’ll never know.

📚Ivana holds a BA in German and Russian language and literature studies at the University of Zagreb. Apart from being fluent in Croatian and English, she has a basic knowledge of Italian, and during her time at the university she took courses in French and Spanish. Languages are a big part of her academic and everyday life, and she hopes to pursue a career in translating. Recently, she has taken part in an online NYI conference (The NY-St. Petersburg Institute of Linguistics, Cognition and Culture), where she participated in a translation seminar and had the opportunity to read her translation at the closing ceremony.

🔎The insatiable hunger for information, the passion for research, and the desire to improve her communication skills led her to multiple MUN simulations. She participated in MUN conferences in Hamburg, Ljubljana, Salamanca, Mostar, Zagreb, and Sarajevo. She was presented with two Best Journalist Awards, acted as Editor in Chief twice, and as a Crisis Manager once.
