This easy and delicious apple crisp recipe is made with good old fashion ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. This recipe was given to me about 40 years ago from a former co-worker. I can't begin to tell you how often I've made this recipe. Very family friendly. I sometimes double the topping because kids and grandkids like the topping raw. Serve warm or cold with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
APPLE CRISP
5 apples, peeled, cored and chopped
1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp brown sugar
TOPPING
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup flour
3/4 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degree>
Place chopped apples in a 8 or 9 inch pie plate. Add lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla and 2 Tbsp of brown sugar. Mix well.
Place all ingredients for the topping in a medium size bowl. Mix all together until small chunks are formed. I like to use my hands but you can use a pastry knife or a fork.
Place topping on top of apples.
Bake at 350 degrees for 3/4 hour.
Serve plain or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
*Sometimes I bake a pie shell for 10-12 minutes and then add the apples and the topping and bake for 45 minutes* It’s delicious either way. ENJOY!
