Another curriculum available this summer: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan!
The Lightning Thief is a modern-day Greek epic about a twelve-year-old boy who discovers his father is a Greek god, and the quest that follows. This was one of my childhood favorites, and I am thrilled to teach it! My first lesson in this curriculum will include an introduction to the Greek myths referenced in this text, as told by D'Aulaire's Book of Greek Myths. The first curriculum I'm preparing this summer is centered around Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. Ella Enchanted is an adaptation of Cinderella, in which the main character has been magically cursed with obedience; Ella must obey every command directed at her.
Students will first learn about the origin of European fairy tales, then read different versions of Cinderella in our first lesson. Later lessons will center on the book itself, with comprehension and discussion questions. Join me for this magical three-and-a-half-week program!
