A Message for International Mother Earth Day from the United Nations: Mother Earth is clearly urging a call to action. Nature is suffering. Oceans filling with plastic and turning more acidic. Extreme heat, wildfires and floods, have affected millions of people. Climate change, man-made changes to nature as well as crimes that disrupt biodiversity, such as deforestation, land-use change, intensified agriculture and livestock production or the growing illegal wildlife trade, can accelerate the speed of destruction of the planet. This is the third Mother Earth Day celebrated within the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Ecosystems support all life on Earth. The healthier our ecosystems are, the healthier the planet - and its people. Restoring our damaged ecosystems will help to end poverty, combat climate change and prevent mass extinction. But we will only succeed if everyone plays a part. For this International Mother Earth Day, let's remind ourselves - more than ever - that we need a shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet. Let’s promote harmony with nature and the Earth. Join the global movement to restore our world! #caribbeanpivot

Recently, the Prime Minister of Barbados, the Rt. Hon. Mia Mottley @mamottley addressed the Paris Peace Forum, making the point that food and water security must become a mainstay in all discussions at the international level, for without it, humanity simply cannot survive. Mottley stressed that in Barbados and around the Caribbean, increased droughts and flooding affects our very ability to grow crops to eat. While an ageing water system and climate threats to our aquifers creates water supply issues for many. She announced that the Government of Barbados will be working with the European Union and the International American Development Bank to upgrade our South Coast Sewage Treatment Plant. She added that this woukd help Barbados create jobs, mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis, offer greater protection to our marine environment, and protect and increase our existing water supply so the people have access to the most important resource of all, water. #caribbeanpivot
