Whoopin' Blues - Lockdown Jazz Sessions
Trumpet player Todd Hardy, from Northern NSW, was checking up on a number of his musical mates, now based in the US, UK, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. After learning his friends were all safe and well, conversations among them turned to how they could somehow make music together during this difficult time for musicians.
A plan was hatched among 6 musicians:
Todd Hardy - Trumpet (Kingscliff, NSW, Australia)
Anita Thomas - Clarinet (Hagerstown, Maryland, USA)
Wil Sargisson - Piano (Napier, New Zealand)
Dan Barnett - Trombone (Sydney, NSW, Australia)
Anthony Howe - Drums (Singapore)
Mark Elton - Double Bass (London, UK)
They picked the classic jazz number 'Whoopin Blues' by John Casimir, settled on an arrangement and worked out a method to record the tune together using various bits of recording equipment that they could find. Sargisson laid down a piano guide track with a click - and then each musician subsequently layered their own recordings, in a game of musical pass-the-parcel. Here is the result!
