UMTR NORTH SEASON OPENER
Quaker City Motorsports Park in Salem OH was the host of the UMTR North 2024 Season on Sunday May 26th. The weather looked a bit dubious, but Mother Nature cooperated for most of the day! Medice Mfg. was our race sponsor guaranteeing the purse for both Quick Stick and Street Stick.
We had a 23-car ladder for Quick Stick and 8 car ladder for street stick, with both long-time street stick racer Jim Wilson and Jack Miller jumping up to run in Quick Stick. Jack had the luck of the draw to pair up in first round with current Quick Stick champion Pat Himes and Jim drew Roger Blile, former multi-time champion! Welcome to Quick Stick gentlemen! Bob Regal with his Opal got the bye in the first round with a few competition singles thrown in due to breakage. Both Blile and Himes showed what champions are made of advancing into round two. Steve Tucholsky last year's runner up, advanced also by taking out former champion Larry Kortkamp. Ron Kovalski who was celebrating his 70th birthday would also advance. Himes had to bow out in round three with some issues with his wheel standing Camaro, giving Tucholsky a competition single where he would face off with Paul Luchynski in round 4, advancing him to the finals. Ron Kovalski got a gift with the bye in round 4 advancing him to the finals. Mother Nature at that time said “not today gentlemen” when it started to rain before the race in Quick Stick could be completed. Roger Blile was the winner of the clutch artist award and the coveted extra point!
Street Stick was a fun race to watch! Brandon Margo took out former Street Stick champion Jeremy Murray. Dave Chioti took out Donald Cooke, Jay Wood advanced with his win over Aaron Adyniec and Fred Carlier got the “W” over Paul Adamczyk. It would come down to Brandon Margo and last year's Rookie of the Year Jay Wood with Margo taking the event win!
Thank you again to our race sponsor Medice Mfg. DRC Truck and Equipment Repair for sponsoring the clutch artist award, and our corporate sponsors Summit Racing Equipment, Mickey Thompson, Liberty Gears, Ram, GForce, VP Fuels, and Custom Floaters.
Our next race is Saturday June 8th at Kuhnle Motorsports Park in Thompson OH, hope to see everyone there!

UMTR seems to have a theme this year, are we going to beat the weather? today at Pacemakers Dragway we did! With a forecast calling for 80% chance of rain at times we showed mother nature who's the boss! Quick stick had 20 racers come out to defend spots, take over spots and pray things don't break! Street stick had 12 racers hoping to shuffle spots, with only 3 races left after today, time to get down to business! Quick Stick was sponsored by GEM Heavy Equipment for a guaranteed purse of $1000 and AJ Trucking sponsored street stick for a guaranteed purse of $500, remember you must be a member to win the guaranteed purse!
Round one in Quick Stick, with tornado sirens blaring in the background, mother nature was teasing us, but we were able to go forward with racing. Frank Madonia lined up against Jason Summer, both former champions with Jason taking the win over Frank. Roger Blile in his Acme Chevelle was paired up with Gerry Waddell in his beautiful Nova, Gerry came out victor. Double Duty Nick Jurcevic faced off against Ron Kovalski but was sent packing on home when Ron's win light came on. Darrell Benedetti got a competition single when Josh Rose couldn't make the call. Troy Blile and his entire family had their fingers crossed for no breakage this race when he faced Paul Luchynsky in Ol' Nellie, Troy sent Ol' Nellie back to the barn, oh I mean trailer! Troy Hrdlicka and Rick Skaggs lined up, both green Rick not only takes the win but also the clutch artist award sponsored by DRC Truck and Equipment Repair. Current point leader Larry Kortkamp and the bounty target, faced "Revin Kevin Margo" who has struggled some all season, Kevin got the win when Larry turned on that ugly red light, would he stay in first with a first-round loss? Also advancing to the round of 10 cars would be Pat Himes, Jon Bowman and Steve Tucholsky
Round two, would Troy Blile break something...nope, but unfortunately, he did advance when Jason Summer's win light came on. Pat Himes faced Darrell Benedetti, and Pat would advance to round 3. Rick Skaggs faced Ron Kovalski, Ron would advance to round 3 when Rick flickered the lights and went red. "Revin Kevin Margo, didn't know what to do, he hasn't made it past 1st round all season he came to the line to face Steve Tucholsky. Kevin figured it out and had a great reaction time and sent Steve to the trailer, was the Kevin's day? Jon Bowman and Gerry Waddell lined up, Jon took the win light and was headed to round 3!
Pat Himes would take the win light over Ron Kovalski in round 3 which was a "two for one" round. Jason Summer had the bye this round. Revin Kevin was in unfamiliar territory, but he was up for the challenge, he faced Jon Bowman, and when his win light came on you could hear his family cheering, on to round 4 to face Jason Summer.
Kevin and Jason lined up, much anticipation on this one, but for Kevin it wasn't in the cards when turned on that big ol red light sending Jason to the finals against Pat Himes.
Last event we had at Pacemakers Dragway, it was Jason and Pat in the finals, it was DeJa'Vu, literally! Pat Himes wins Pacemakers again, and the premium pot payout, not a bad payday for Pat!
Street Stick top 10 points are tight this year! Point leader Double Duty Nick Jurcevic would face off against John Ducsay, a little Mustang vs Mustang action, Mustang for the wins! Whose Mustang you ask? John Ducsay takes this one! And a little more Mustang vs Mustang action when Brandon Margo and Tom Eitel line up, and again Mustang wins! Brandon taking a hint from his dad Revin' Kevin and advances on! Ray Tartabini got a competition single when his opponent couldn't make the call, Ray was the winner of the clutch artist award sponsored by DRC Truck and Equipment Repair, giving him a little extra cash in his pocket and that coveted extra point. Jim Wilson would advance with his win over rookie Tyler Tucke. Paul Adamczyk would advance with his win over Donald Joseph Cooke. Dave Layman would have to drive home sooner than he had hoped for when C. Ellis would take the win.
Remember those tornado siren's we heard in round one, well they went off again! We still had blue skies! Ray Tartabini lined up against Jim Wilson, some classic Ford vs Chevy racing, Ray and his Camaro would take the win. John Ducsay lined his Mustang up against Paul Adamczyk, John would take the win sending him on to the round of cars.
Brandon Margo was on the right side of the ladder, giving him a bye into the finals! Ray Tartabini and John Ducsay both vying for the chance at the big check, Ford vs Chevy, Chevy takes the win. This sets it up for the classic Ford vs Chevy match up in the finals, would it be Brandon in his Fox Body Mustang or Ray in his flashy red Camaro? Both hungry for a win, hoping to shake up the points, Ray was a little too anxious, turning on the red light handing the win over to Brandon Margo! Ray can't be too upset, he took over first place!
We always want to thank not only our race sponsors Gem Manufacturing and AJ Trucking, but our corporate sponsors, Summit Racing Equiptment, Mickey Thompson Tires, Ram Clutches, GForce, Liberty Gears, VP Fuels, Moser Engineerig and Custom Floaters, LLC.
UMTR's next race will be August 26th at Dragway 42, West Salem OH...hope to see you in the pits!

The day started out beautiful for our race at Tad and Jim Dragway of Magnolia sponsored by Hills & Dales Dairy Queen. 25 Quick Stick came grab that $1000 prize, $25 Clutch artist award and the $25 Bounty hunter prize! 15 Street stick racers wanted their share of $500 put up by Hills &Dales Dairy Queen in Canton Ohio. We were off and running under those beautiful Ohio skies. Qualifying was not kind to a few of our racers. Troy Blile has been over seas working and was returning stateside Saturday, his flight was cancelled from JFK to Pittsburg so Heather packed up their 3 littles and headed to NY to pick Troy - up. First pass his driveshaft became a twisted mess ending his day with one burnout. We had our drivers meeting 50/50 drawn and lucky Judy Miller came up the winner, congratulations Judy!
First round in Quick Stick 22 cars vying for that big check, bounty hunter award and the coveted clutch artist award not only for the extra cash but that one extra point, which at the end of the season could be a game changer! Pat Himes and Frank Madonia were the first pair to line up with Frank getting the win light. Revin‘ Kevin Margo lined up will Jason Summer , sponsored by Hills & Dales Dairy Queen, would he advance and have a repeat of our last race at Magnolia sponsored by Hills & Dales DQ? The answer is yes! Shawn Minor, who in my opinion makes the BEST burnout face didn’t disappoint me when came to the line to race Nick Jurcevic and would advance to round two! Greg Changet paired up with current point leader and got the win when Larry turned on that dreaded red light. Steve Tucholsky was todays bounty target and Tim O’Neal wanted to be the one to be the one to sending but suffered some technical difficulties inside his Vega and would not advance keeping that bounty alive! Also advancing to round 2 was Troy Hrdlicka, Brent Duvall and Earl Weizimer.
Street stick top 5 points are pretty tight, all we’re set to battle and wanted that big check and bragging rights until our next race! Brian Riggle lined up his beautiful mustang against Bounty hunter target Jeremy Murray taking the win and the $25 cash! Brandon Margo who has been suffering with “redlightitis” of late seems to have found a cure advancing with his win light! Two new members this year in the Street stick line up Jay Wood and Dom Klein faced off with Dom in his Hellcat taking the win light. Ray Tartabini faced of against Kevin Coletta , Kevin suffering from some transmission issues was not able to advance. Donald Cooke lined up with current point leader “ Double duty” Nick Jurcevic and sent him back to the trailer, on to round 2! Jack Miller, who was the winner at our last race at Magnolia sponsored by Hills &Dales Dairy Queen also wanted a repeat but Jim Wilson and his Mustang was not going to see to that or so he thought! Jack advanced along with Dave Layman with his win over Abby Birchenour.
Remember those blue beautiful skies we started off with? They turned ugly, grey and angry looking and the rain came leaving everyone scrambling to get their cars loaded, the race was called and the pot split between all that were left.
Ray Tartabini and Frank Madonia were the winners of the clutch artist award sponsored by DRC Truck and Equipment repair…. remember that extra 1 point…..coveted!
We would also like to thank our corporate sponsors Summit Racing Equiptment, Mickey Thompson Tires, Ram Clutches, GForce, Liberty Gears, VP Fuels, Moser and Custom Floaters.
Hope to see you all at our next race on Saturday August 12th at Pacemaker in Mt. Vernon sponsored by GEM Manufacturing and AJ Trucking and remember “You can’t have a bad day when your eating ice cream!”
