Reading this brought a tear to my eye—the good kind.

Such a darling book! It tells the tale of a dog and his human family from his perspective in so much as the things that were important to him. It’s heart warming and colorful. The prose is easy enough for a child, yet interesting enough for an adult to relate. I bought this book as a gift, but I might have to keep it for myself.

“This book is based on a true story of love, family, and diversity.” After adopting Pepé, Papa and Pappi fostered Paco, a youngster who spoke English and Spanish, and later Patrick, an adult with Downs Syndrome. Papa had light skin; Pappi had dark skin. Theirs was a blended, inclusive family.
Pepé was loved by everyone. Though Pepé has died, he’s remembered fondly. His family members remember how much he liked taking walks and playing in the backyard. Papa and Pappi still host the annual party they initially hosted to introduce Pepé shortly after he joined their family.
