Product updates and thoughts from Author Glenn Hascall.

Was asked to provide two roles in separate storylines for upcoming series. Those lines have been recorded and sent to the producer. I also listened to a story arc that was finished recently and will be released to audiences in the spring. As far as my own audio dramas I may have a couple of surprises in 2024. We shall see.

Three more to add to the growing list of possible future episodes (at this point likely 2026. lol

Finished the initial draft of a contracted audio drama script - now for review and revision. My next planned writing would be the script for a 2025 release called, "The Nook". Next weekend I should have enough voice parts that I can begin producing the 3rd Dragnet episode and finish the last couple of pieces of Christmas at the Canteen.

This news is incredibly fresh. I just signed a contract to write a new audio drama for a client. Happy to begin exploring words and imagining characters playing in the world those words represent.

Once upon a time I was the mayor of a small city. It was a position I held for nearly 9 years before I resigned to take a position in another state. My initial involvement was due to the fact that the individual I bought my house from was a member of the board and there was an opening when he moved along. I was asked to consider and I promptly said, "No!" There was further encouragement and on a whim I sent in a letter indicating an interest in filling the council role until the next election. What I didn't know was that the meeting to pick this person was the same night I sent in (by fax) my one page of paperwork. I was invited to the meeting and I had expected numerous other individuals to be in consideration. My hope was to be done and out so I could get home to my wife and young daughter.

I arrived and a feeling of dread came over me. I was the only one in the room that wasn't supposed to be there. Once the meeting started it was 30 seconds and I was invited to be a part of the board as an appointee. I was sworn in by the city clerk and motioned to fill a comfortable chair. Within a few months (at reorganization) I was asked to be mayor.

Five or so years into this new facet of life I was approached by a state-based lobbying group who strongly urged me to give up the role of mayor in favor of running as a state representative.

I figured if I had no strong personal interest in getting into politics in the first place then it was a hard nope thinking about moving forward to the state level.

Some time later I was at a morning meeting when a former coach of the state university was to be a keynote speaker. I was at the head table with him and observed all kinds of hand written notes for the speech he would give. He was running for congress and applied his life's path to the role of potential statesman. He spoke quietly and plainly about his pursuit of a congressional seat. He made absolutely no promises except that if he were elected he would step in, learn all he could about the issues and - "Do his best".

There was no cutting down those who were running for the same office. No promises seeking to persuade certain voters - just a promise to do his best. And in his case it worked. He was in office for six years and most people thought he did a great job.

It all came down to the reputation he had and the trust others had in him. Yes, politics was something new for Tom, but if he really would do his best - just like he had on the football field - why it would be enough.

It was the kind of leader I always strived to be and one I still wish could survive in today's political world. Yep, still wish it were possible.

And that, my friends, may be the most I will ever speak about politics. There is no mention here about parties, current candidates or bashing of any sort. Just me - and a simple (and slightly utopian) wish.

I have decided to write a seventh script for Range Drifters. I'll begin writing this afternoon. Just finished what may or may not be placeholder art for the episode. This one ill be less about an actual adventure and more a recollection of a myth often told in Upton Heights.

I enjoy making my audio dramas personally visual. It helps me define the characters I write and the setting in which they exist. So, for a project in the works with a different producer here's how I like to visualize one of the characters. Your imagination may differ. :)

I listened to a prerelease edition of a new Nick Guy Private Eye series (3 half hour episodes) that I was asked to provide voice for. This go around I play a sports writer following a baseball team and is a suspect in sabotaging the team. By request the voice was inspired by the late Casey Kasem. Frank Ulle did a great job as did his entire crew. I think this was the 3rd or 4th series I worked on with Frank in 2023. And of course he and Rebekah Bradford have been a part of several of mine. Always nice to collaborate with audio drama friends. There have been three such collaborative moments in the past couple of weeks on various projects.

This is national DJ day. Let's see, I started in 1984 - soooooo a lot of time working a sound board. It's been great to see posts from so many radio friends (new and, umm, less new) that are sharing some of their own broadcasting adventures. Still behind the mics for a morning show these days along with a few other duties elsewhere. ;)

I didn't plan on it this way, but I'm home at the moment working on Christmas at the Canteen. The magazine staff just sent me a second email with a review of the On Demand series. I am left in a state of wonder thinking about all the kind hearted voice actors who stepped up to give it some life. Thanks.

I received an email this afternoon from a magazine that will be reviewing the first episode of Dragnet in their next issue. They allowed me to review the review. ;) I can't share any of it prior to publication - but perhaps it is safe to say - they liked it - they really really liked it. If you're curious, the audio drama is Dragnet: Daniel, Darius and the Den and you can listen free exclusively at

Solid advice.

I was honored to listen to the first half of Christmas at the Canteen this evening. I still have two remaining scenes to produce and credits to record but another group of stellar performances by new and existing talent. I am so pleased with the level of professionalism brought to the performance. Cast members will be provided the opportunity to hear the production when completed in early February. And because I enjoy visualizing what these stories are doing I present a few snapshots from the audio drama - none of which will be the cover art. Enjoy maybe. ;)

18/01/2024

And yes, I could be inspired here.

18/01/2024

Yes, I would enjoy this. Yes, this is much better than a storage area. Yes, this would bring a contended sigh. Yes - it would.

I am trying to determine if I can produce this in 2024. The script is written and it is intended as a stand alone audio drama. I provided a placeholder piece of art in an announcement about the project earlier. Here are three more possibilities I like better. It's tough to leave almost any art idea without some reimagining.

In the event Range Drifters finds an audience there are now 6 more stories that have simple layouts for development. I will likely move on to full script development for The Nook. I place this here as a reminder in the event more stories are needed. Some of this you have seen before, but this post includes all six of a possible second set of stories.

15/01/2024

OK, so it's a problem, but not a bad one. I have the first six stories in Range Drifters written. I have also written a promo that primary cast members now have. But I also have a story idea that I will add to the other three in waiting. No titles, no storyline - just the art. I really should stop. ;)

14/01/2024

OK, the plan is to produce 6 written episodes and roll them out in 2025. Wish it was sooner.

13/01/2024

I'm in the middle of writing Episode 5. (Range Drifters) The construction of the six episodes planned for 2025 could be complete this coming week. Then? Continued work on the production of the third Dragnet script and Christmas at the Canteen. Script for the fourth Dragnet script will be sent in early February.

Two more prospective storylines represented by art. :)

11/01/2024

The narrator for "Christmas at the Canteen" will be changing. Circumstances that prevent one from tackling the script is allowing Jacob Phillips to step into the role. Very pleased to have him aboard. There is only one other voice actor I am waiting to hear from but I was also aware he was working through some health issues. Things are coming together for this - looking forward to sharing it later this year,

10/01/2024

There could possibly be a seventh episode in the series or the start of another season - if the series seems to find an audience.

10/01/2024

Today I altered a few graphics in the Range Drifters episodes. I also reached the tipping point. I have begun the writing of episode 4 so it looks like it will be a thing in 2025 - or I shelve it (probably not). Kinda liking this mountainous world - and the critters that populate its slopes.
