How much should I eat to prevent iron deficiency and anemia??
Infants, children, and women of child-bearing age, especially womens who are conceiving (18-40 years old) have to consume adequate iron intake as they are prone to iron deficiency, which will led to poor growth, reproduction and anemia.
Iron is an essential trace minerals that helps to transport red blood cells to all parts of our body; improves immune functions and carry oxygen for use in energy metabolism!
To increase absorption of iron in foods of plant and animals origin, include vitamin C-rich foods! Female adults are advised to consume iron supplements to meet their daily iron intake!
Choosing healthier foods is easier than you think.
This can be done by changing just a few eating habits and you can make a big difference to your diet!
Why do some people have difficulty gaining weight? This is due to several reasons:
1) People with a high metabolism
2) Genetic disposition ( low weight runs in the family)
3) Frequent exercise (mainly people who do cardio exercise)
4) Physical illness (Often seen in elderly and critically ill patients
A nutritious diet can avoid further weight loss. This is especially important to help people who are ill to regain the weight they lost to help body fight infections more effectively.
This diet include eating foods that are high in calories and protein! To help maintain and repair body tissues and provide fuel for our body. This diet is especially important and useful for elderly who are ill as their body needs more energy than normal. Therefore, consuming food of high calories and protein is helpful for their recovery.

Tips: Go for Siew Dai version (less sugar)
When consume a whole fruit you will eat the flesh, the skin and the pulp, and this contains different kinds of nutrients.
But, in fruit juice, the skin and pulp of the fruits are removed, this will reduce the number of nutrients and leaves a much more concentrated source of sugar. This increase in sugar level will results in rapid increases in blood sugar.So people with diabetes will have to reduce intake of fruit juice!
If you love to drink soft and fizzy drinks, swapping to fresh juice is a better option as it contain extra vitamins and minerals which are not found in other soft drinks
Love to eat Chinese dessert especially after a meal in the hawker centre, this is for you!
Chinese desserts are often high in sugar and we have to make sure we do not overconsume them as this will spike up our blood sugar level very quickly!
Frequent consumption of high sugar intake will cause future health risks such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, vision problems, and nerve problems.
Of course, have them once in a while is absolutely fine, make sure to not have them more than twice a week. For people with diabetes, you might want to wait for an hour after your meals before consuming Chinese dessert as this can help balance your blood sugar level slightly.
Carbohydrates are an important part of a healthy balanced diet. All carbohydrates will be broken down into sugar in our body, and this will be used as our main source of energy by our body.
Drastic reduction in carbohydrate intakes can affect our gut health and lead to constipation.Currently, many people are restricting carbohydrate as they want to lose weight. Restricting any one food group (including carbohydrate) is generally not recommended for many reasons including dietary imbalance and nutrients deficiencies
We have to be aware of portion sizes of all foods including carbohydrate.
How much calcium do we need?
Calcium is important for growth and skeletal development .
Studies had found that children especially boys who do not consume much calcium may result in shorter adult stature.
However, we will stop growing taller after puberty but adequate calcium intake is necessary to strengthen our bones and teeth; to prevent fractures and fall in future.
Here is a guide on how much you have to consume to meet the calcium requirements per person base on your age!
Who say we can't drink alcohol! We can drink them as long as we drink not more than 14 units per week! Binge drinking 14 units of alcohol at once will increase risk of alcohol related health problems! So remember to spread your drinks throughout the week!
