Hi everyone, my name is Kaitlin! I am one of the new Academic Community Counselors/Peer Advisors for the GSW Department. I am a fourth year Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies and Psychology double major. I use she/her/hers pronouns. Some fun facts about me: I’m an Aries and I love photography, feminist magazines and iced coffee! I’m excited to get to know y’all this year ☺️

What is your favorite memory of being a GSW Major?

"It's hard to pick a favorite memory from my time in the major, but I will always be grateful for being in an academic space where students' voices, experiences, and knowledge are respected and brought to the forefront. I have learned so much from my classmates that I could never have learned from the coursework alone, and those are the moments I will remember the most."

What was your favorite GSW course? Why? "It's so hard to choose, but I think my favorite GSW course was "Intro to Feminist Theory" with Professor Wendy Ho. It was incredibly challenging, but opened my mind to some incredible new ways of thinking about the world around me."

Do you have any advice for incoming GSW Majors?
"Ask questions, and be prepared to unlearn almost everything you were taught about gender, sexuality, feminism. It will open your mind in the most challenging but rewarding way. I now finally have the academic tools to put my experiences into words and to create tangible changes in my life."

Do you have a personal quote or message?
"Being a GSW major has been the most rewarding experience of my life, because now I am free to be myself and I have the words to finally make sense of it."
