No matter what we look like, how we worship, or who we love, most of us want similar things:
🙂 to be happy
♥️ to care for our loved ones
🎁 to contribute to our communities.
This year, do something to decide . Be a voter:
Concord Monitor, Letter: Obstruction
It was so disheartening to read in a recent Concord Monitor that New Hampshire, along with fifteen other states had joined in filing a lawsuit against the Biden Administration. The suit is about a rule allowing children, brought here illegally with their parents, to enroll in the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) health insurance. These children are referred to as “Dreamers” after the “Dream Act” of over twenty years ago. Dreamers is really a misnomer since many are responding to opportunities, becoming productive members of their communities.
New Hampshire is the only New England state to join this suit. What makes these decision-makers so mean spirited? They hide behind legalese, ignoring any sense of compassion or common sense. Isn’t it better to have health insurance than unpaid bills and untreated conditions? Haven’t we learned anything from the pandemic? The party of ‘no’ will stop at nothing to prevent any attempts to lift all boats. It’s news like the news of this suit that reminds me that it’s not the money, it’s not the ads or the crowds. It’s the vote.

Kamala Harris is right: When abusers come armed, it can be deadly. Every month, an average of 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner, nearly 1 million women have had a gun used against them by intimate partners, and over 4.5 million women have been threatened with a gun by an intimate partner.
But the danger of armed abusers extends well beyond women and families—our communities are less safe when abusers have easy access to guns. In fact, it’s common for shooters who carry out horrific acts of mass gun violence to have histories of domestic violence.
America needs leaders like Kamala Harris and Tim Walz who fully understand this danger, and will take action to keep guns out of the hands of abusers.

EXCITING DAY. Now the race is full on with less than 3 months to election day!
Kamala Harris choses Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Bringing a seasoned and successful Congressperson and Middle America Governor on as her campaign and governing partner. They appear to share similar values, priorities, and dispositions. At the same time, their careers and experiences are very different and complementary.
It will be very exciting to see how this rolls out. Onward! We have to win this.
We are looking for VOLUNTEERS to help us canvas and help get out the vote. If you wnt to join in, please email [email protected]
💬 As Kamala Harris wisely reminds us, “You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you.” Our generation carries a wealth of resilience and wisdom. Suddenly Trump looks older and more more deranged, Anne Applebaum
Four days after the end of the Republican National Convention, it suddenly looks like a very different event. I watched it intermittently, on television, along with perhaps 25 million other Americans (a relatively small number, though enough to matter). I focused on the highlights, like most viewers did. I read the analysis and thought I understood what had happened. But in the light of President Joe Biden’s brave and unprecedented decision to drop out of the race, my memory of what Donald Trump and his party were doing and saying has permanently shifted. I suspect this will be true for at least some of the other 25 million of us too.
Whatever happens next, the frame has altered. Now it is the Republicans who are saddled with the elderly candidate, the one who can’t make a clear argument or finish a sentence without veering off into anecdote. Now the Democrats are instead proposing something new. Now it is the many pundits who were already bored by the race and ready to wrap it up who look foolish.
Remember, if you still can: The Republican convention was a carefully curated, meticulously planned presentation. As my colleague Tim Alberta has said, the theme was “strength.” Strength was expressed by exaggerated, absurd, comic-book figures: Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock. The latter chanted “Fight, fight!” and “Trump, Trump!” while pumping his fist. Then he sang “American Bad Ass,” an unlistenable work of profound dissonance. Trump himself walked into the convention hall to the strains of James Brown’s famously misogynistic anthem “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World.”
Strength was implied by the equally choreographed demonstrations of debasement. Nikki Haley, who had repeatedly questioned whether Trump is “mentally fit” to be president—and had declared that “the first party to retire its 80-year-old candidate” will win the election—offered her “strong endorsement.” The vice-presidential nominee, J. D. Vance, who had previously compared Trump to Hi**er and described him as “cultural heroin,” performed a kind of kowtow, appearing at the convention in the form of supplicant, acolyte, prodigal son. Like so many other Republicans, he bowed to the power of Trump, to the vulgarity of Hulk Hogan, to a whole host of things he used to say he didn’t like, and maybe still doesn’t like. He even made a peculiar, strained attempt to link his children and his wife, the daughter of South Asian immigrants, to a cemetery in East Kentucky where he said they will be buried, as if none of this will make sense until all of us are dead….
