As our community continues to recover from Hurricane Ian it's important to protect yourself from contractor fraud. Scammers are known to prey on homeowners in crisis and do not have your best interest at heart. Victims wind up with unexpected out of pocket costs, low quality work and long delays. Do NOT sign a contract with a vendor you have not vetted. Ask to see their license and insurance.

To report suspected fraud, call the FEMA Disaster Fraud Hotline toll free at 1-866-720-5721. If you need to report other fraudulent activities during or following a natural disaster, please notify FEMA at 1-866-720-5721 or [email protected].

Turtles!!

Photos from bonitaroofing.com's post 07/05/2020

A prominent real estate agent referred me to a “tile roof repair” today in Bonita Springs. Thank you!!

Her client closed two months ago. They had it inspected by an esteemed home inspection company as he found SOME “broken tiles” that need to be repaired by his report.

This is what I found:

Over 30 Raised Tiles
Cracked Tiles
Broken Tiles
Exposed Underlayment
Turtle Vent masonry fractured and vent was bent from the wind.
Approx 150 fasteners that had been not properly secured, had lifted out, or had never cleaned up to begin with.

All caused by either Hurricane Irma or shoddy workmanship to begin with. You be the judge.

Call me (estimates are free), & then call your agent, and then, we will get a public adjuster if needed.

Here is the skinny on Hurricane Irma deadlines:

“The Deadline
Hurricane Irma first made landfall in Cudjoe Key, FL on September 10, 2017 which means you have until September 10, 2020 to make a claim for damages that were the result of Hurricane Irma. September 10, 2020 is also the deadline to re-open or supplement a claim that has already been made for damages that occurred as a result of Hurricane Irma.

However, you must be aware that most, if not all policies, contain a duty to promptly report any loss, including a loss from a hurricane. Therefore once you become aware that you have sustained damage from Irma, you need to report it immediately.

Finally, if you are unsure if you sustained damage as a result of Hurricane Irma, you should ask for an inspection of your property by a qualified roofer and/or building inspector – many companies offer this initial inspection free of charge.” -Cohen Law Group

We hope you stay safe this season but if you need to get storm prepared please let us help!!

“Tropical Storms vs. Hurricanes

The National Hurricane Center explains that names are only given to tropical storms that have sustained wind speeds higher than 39 mph. These names will stay with the storm as it reaches hurricane strength (maximum sustained winds of 74 mph or higher). This means Tropical Storm Debby, for example, will become Hurricane Debby if it reaches maturity.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins June 1st, peaks September 10th, and ends November 30th, although hurricanes can form at any time.”
